I changed the Ignition Module yesterday as noted in my earlier Post.
I was under the impression that the old one bit the dust "all of a sudden", now I am not so sure.
Our engine is a rebuild and installed by Jim Bounds,(Jasper?) has less than 5000 miles, the plug gap according to Jim is 45. It runs great, meaning, I thought it did. Smooth, trans feels like it only has one gear, shifting is not felt. We have driven it about 2200 miles, have not added any oil.
The Coach has been, while not hard starting, would take numerous revolutions to light off. When cold it would take perhaps 5 seconds of cranking before it would fire.
We could most times smell fuel while driving for about 5 or 10 minutes. This is with the old Module, and keep in mind, we are so new to the Coach we just assumed they were all like that. Fuel consumption has averaged just under 9 mpg since we bought it. We do not tow. I drive 55 normal and very seldom over 60.
I noticed today as well as last night, (did not think much about it last night) that the engine starts so quickly now that I almost do not have to turn the key <BG> Well you know what I mean, just bump the key and it fires. Also, no gasolene smell.
Could it be that the old module was on its last legs for some time now? If so, hard starting, long cranking time might also be a indication of the module going bad as well as unburned fuel.
I can't wait for another trip to check fuel consumption, the way it sounds is a world of difference from what it was. There is a test to see how much vibration a quality Table Saw makes, stand a nickle on edge and turn on the saw, I think I could stand a Nickle on edge on the air cleaner of this engine, well almost.
I know I am carrying on here so please forgive me, I just cannot get over how different a seemingly good running engine can be improved.
