Hi,
Does anyone have any recommendation on a new pneumatic grease gun?. My manual one sucks and I am tired of jacking the rears right off the ground to get the grease in. The 23' has only a center hole in the pin so they need greasing more often.

Emery,
Funny you should mention this, when I was in the USAF I worked second shift
and to make some extra money I worked in Texaco garage. Mike Kozatska (owner
of the garage) told me that I whenever I did a grease job I was to keep
pumping until I saw grease coming out of whatever I was greasing! Naturally
being a good soldier I followed his instructions and would pump until I saw
a good amount coming out! One day we happened to be servicing a car
together, he was changing the oil and filter and I was greasing the zerks.
He looked over and got all bent out of shape because "you are wasting
grease!" I told him I was doing what he told me to do and he noted, "not
that much!" I handed him the grease gun and asked him to show me the correct
amount. He attached it to another zerk and hit the trigger. Out came even
more than the one I did! That was the end of that training session!
I bought a manual grease gun for Double Trouble; it's the kind with the
"trigger" not the "lever." I found the lever type take two hands to operate
whereas the trigger type take one. You can generate more pressure with the
lever type, however.

Be careful using a pneumatic grease gun. You cannot tell if the grease is
going anywhere. When I had new ball joints put in by a shop I greased them
regularly with a pneumatic grease gun. It would "chug" about three times
and I figured that I had enough grease in.
Then about a year later I used my manual pump gun as I didn't want to pull
the compressor out to the GMC. I found that it would not pump. I then
pulled the Zerk fitting and found that it was too long inside and was sealed
against the ball. I ground down the end of the threads to make it shorter
and then it took grease.
Now I only use the manual gun.

Gary,
Lincoln makes a battery powered one that I prefer over the pneumatic
ones. They're not as proud of them as they used to be but they're
still over $100.00 When we were at the SEMA convention a couple of
years ago, Lincoln was there and was hawking the grease gun. I asked
them how the heck you were supposed to bleed the air out of the older
ones and they just shrugged and said, "yeah, the older models had that
problem" and offered absolutely no solution. I've seen clones out
there.

I like the flexable hose at the end for tight places .

G'day,
Just got an email with a bunch of coupons from Harbor freight and one of
them was for their pistol grip grease gun item number 66664 for $9.99 marked
down from $19.99.
Call your local HF and see if it's in the flyers they have and if they have
any in stock.
I tried going to their website, searching for 66664, to see if it was the
same price there but it ain't, it's $12.99.

Hey Rob,
they have a couple. Generally I don't buy anything from Harbor Freight with
a motor or with moving parts. Engine lifts, engine stands, cherry picker
type things seem OK. However, I might give one of these a try. The price
sure is right. Thanks for the lead.

I carry two of these in Double Trouble; one for Mobil 1 and one for
Valvoline Dura Blend.
In anticipation of the next question; I have two because Dave Lenzi uses
Mobil 1 in the wheel bearing assemblies he ships.
In anticipation of the next question; he noted that the greases SHOULD be
compatible.
In anticipation of the last question; for the price of the grease gun (even
at $19.99 and tube of grease) I wasn't willing to find out! ;-)

Agreed!
None of the grease guns I have here in my shop are CCC (Cheap Chinese Crap),
however, for the GMC that gets greased once a year I didn't want to invest a
lot of money.
If anybody is interested in a Blue Point GG (RRP $69.99 from Snap On) here's
one on Craigslist for $40.
