G'day,

Look what I stumbled on to putting together the message to Stick regarding
the various models:

http://www.bdub.net/publications/Silver_Motor_Coach/smc2.htm

Take a look at the rear suspension system on page two of this brochure!

Look familiar?

Interesting. 4WD 3/4 T Chevy. Revcon upper control arms. Can't get
a good enough look at the lowers.

yup, hard to patent that thing

but for the GMC community, it is all about where to get stuff
and
that is why JimK , and our other vendors are so valuable, you know where to
find stuff

(and we all know we need STUFF ;>)

Bob,

Yup! That's why I posted it! It looks just like the "new" single bag system
the Frady's just came up with!

Disclaimer: I AM NOT DENIGRATING WHAT THE FRADY'S DID OR SAYING THAT THEY

What type of transmission are they using?
4.10 gears rings a bell if it is a 425 trans.
I thought you did trick photography here.
Maybe Byron should look into this.

Jim,

The brochure can be found on Bdub's website and according to the first page
it was provided by an E. Tipton. He collected it at Silver Motor Coaches in
1991.

http://www.bdub.net/publications/Silver_Motor_Coach/smc.htm

Observations:

On the front page is a photograph of a six wheeled GMC look alike except it
is longer.

On page two the photo on the left has a title of 4 X 4. It is NOT the same
vehicle as on the first page, it is flat sided, it appears to have 4 wheels
not six, the front tires are massive, and the front is not the same at all.

To the right of the 4 X 4 picture is a picture of a tandem air bag rear
suspension system. There is NO WAY drive power could be supplied to those
wheels the frame is in the way!

Moving to the left there is a picture of a front suspension / front wheel
drive system. There's no brake calipers but I'd guess it is from a GMC as it
has eight stud hubs.

The Specification Standard under the pictures seems to describe the
Motorhome on the first page; except for 15. Optional 4 X 4 Drive Motor Home.

What bells rang regarding the 4.10 gears for the Final Drive?

Rob Mueller

Steve,

So that means it doesn't have a final drive as we know it; it has a transfer
case?

Rob,
The later Revcons used the front drive from a Chev 4X4. Those are
Revcon control arms. Interesting that under lighting is says "single'
10: headlight and one of the photos shows duals. TH 400 trans, 4:10
gears were pretty standard stuff for the big Chevy 4 X 4s.

It would still have a final drive. The front yoke on the transfer case
would connect to a shaft that would connect to the final drive that
would be in the center of the front axle. Just like what you would
have on a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

The Revcon used this setup when they used the 454 engine.

Rob,
The later Revcons used the front drive from a Chev 4X4. Those are
Revcon control arms. Interesting that under lighting is says "single'
10: headlight and one of the photos shows duals. TH 400 trans, 4:10
gears were pretty standard stuff for the big Chevy 4 X 4s.

Wow, That really does look like the one we saw at Eastern States. The coach reminds me of a Revcon. They did 454 engines later. That is something. Even a 410 gear, as has been noted.

Since we have been supplying the 4.10 gear ratio to various people, I
thought that unit was running our gear with the same final drive as
our coaches.
