I've just discovered a GREAT web site: www.batchgeo.com

At that site, you can paste the contents of any spreadsheet containing
address information and it will create a Google Map of that data! Quick,
easy and offering all the usual Google Maps & Google Earth nifty features.

Here's the latest Black List, created in <15 minutes:

Ken,

This is really neat! I was amazed when I the link opened and I found that it
was a map of the world and that Mark Bennett and myself were on the map!

I clicked on my "dot" and kept zooming in on the satellite view and lo and
behold I can see my house!

NEAT!

Dave,

That is a valid concern. They don't seem to use it, but when we publish the
Black List (and other rosters, etc.) on sites like bdub's, we expose them
for misappropriation and use by all sorts of folks. When sending the link
to GMCNet, I considered doing so to be no more of a broadcast than already
exists.

Here's the latest Black List, created in <15 minutes:

I guess this puts me into retirement from doing the Streets & Trips Black List mapping.

No real work involved on my part:

Download the Black List
Load into Open Office
Ctrl-A (select all)
Ctrl-C (cut)
Log into www.BatchGeo.com
Left click in the spreadsheet field shown on the web page, highlighting it
Ctrl-V (paste)
Click "Validate..." and follow directions to correlate the fields, create
the map, and save the file.

Thats great. I wonder why the vendors are not on the blacklist though. Far as mis-appropriation of address and personal info I have never used my real address on line anyway in anticipation of that.

Do not retire yet. I can not get it to work here.

I made three attempts across about an hour and all it does is hang Firefox.

It may be that the site is not available 24x7. I'll try again later.

Also using this would require Internet access which is not usually available when I am broken down on the road.

Ken,

It's sort of tricky. I had to try different options and make some
counter-intuitive answers before it magically did it's thing. For example,
after it reported completion, I had to go back to an earlier step -- don't
recall which route I took then. Even the first step, Paste, is not obvious
unless you view the video tutorial. And the Firefox lockup may not be truly
locked up, but waiting for one of those step-backs.

You can print or save maps; I'd select areas where I planned to travel to
save before a long trip.

Randy asked, "I wonder why the vendors are not on the blacklist though."

The Black List is set up for folks who will assist in their home
areas. These are individuals who will go out of their way to help you
as you travel and provide local info if needed.

The vendor's lists are available on every major web site already and
their list can be pulled up and printed from there. For this info go
to http://bdub.net/GMCSupplierLinks.html

The Black List is only as good as the info you input into it. Here
are some things you can do to help the list.

UPDATE YOUR INFO

SIGN UP TO ASSIST

Go to http://www.bdub.net/Black_List/# to sign up, update, or obtain
the Black List for your use.

Thanks go to all who are on the list as YOU are the ones that have
made the list the success it is.
