Good Morning All
I run my coach in the summer with the generator running and the two roof mounted a/c units to cool coach.
I fabricated an overhead console with blower and vents to bring cool air forward and blow on driver and passenger. Getting ready to mount it between driver and passenger overhead but find no way to hang it from ceiling. I spoke with my go to guy Jim B. and he says there are no good anchor point in the center of ceiling. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. It seemed like a good idea at the time to make this unit.
thanks
Marcel

While I agree there are no 'good' anchor points you might be able hang it
from the mirror base on the front and the area of the sliding curtain just
behind the drivers compartment at the rear.
Greater minds will have other suggestions....

I'll have to drop round for an inspection next Fall <g>

Marcel,

How heavy is the unit?

Could you post some pictures to the photo site?

Any chance you could post some photos of your set up?

I did a shelf for CB radio and storage.
Mounted visors below it.

I too will try and get pictures posted.

I had a similar problem finding some way to mount an overhead console. What I did was first take down the headliner over the driver and passenger.
Once you have that down you will see the the plastic/SMC roof over the cab portion of the body has these vertical reinforcing spines about 1.5 inches tall. In the center there are two spines that are about 1.5 inches apart that run front to rear that form a channel that the antenna wire runs in. There is a fair amount of insulating foam in this area between these spines which you will need to remove.
What I did was cut a 2X4 so that it would fit between the spines and extend about 1/4 inch below the spines while leaveing space above the wood for the antenna wire. Then I drilled piolet holes about every 2 inches along each spine into the wood and attached the wood to the spines with pan head screws.
Then you put the headliner back and there is now a solid mounting place for the overhead console.

The piece of wood I used was around 2 feet long as I wanted to distribute the load.

I am going to reply to my own post to add some links to pictures on the photosite.
They are not my pictures ( I forgot to take any...DUH moment) but you can see the structure above the front headliner.

The next photo shows another method to make a solid mount by putting bolts thru the roof.

Hi there Rob
The unit when completed weights in about 9 lbs. U used a 3" bilge pump and
vents from a mazda auto. The console itself is a console from a 2004
chevrolet suburban with small compartments for sun glasses. door opener and
a tissue holder and two map lights. Made some brackets this after noon that
mount to the plastic reiforcements in the roof structure. Should be good
and stout will let you know how project came out and get you some pictures
