Stick,
I just finished checking out the coach. One big plus is that it was
owned by a real motorhead. The owner (deceased) was president of the
Chrysler Club and really knew what he was doing.
There is approx 27,000 miles on the engine and trans. It runs
excellent, holds 50-60 psi oil pressure and there are no ticks,
rattles or anything to suggest it is anything other that what it is
represented to be. In short , it runs like a watch. Jardine 3"
exhaust, no leaks. No evidence of any engine or trans leaks, the
trans has a deep Ragusa aluminum pan on it. 547 hrs on the Onan, it
cranks but did not start.
Rear brakes, bearings, all serviced with zero miles on them. There
are new spares for the front bearings. I felt no slack in the
steering. Mechanically, this is one well maintained coach. Most of
the records are from Cinnabar. There is a large box of history that
goes with the coach.
The body has no cracks or fractures, some repaint work has been done
as evidenced by the EBay photos. The tires appear to be new but keep
in mind that the current owner never drove the coach. A big plus here
is all of the side windows have been replaced with the ones Motorhome
Enhancements sells and the installation is well done. All of the
windows have valences and 1" blinds. Shortly after purchasing it and
beginning the refurb, he got Gherigs disease and passed away after
owning the coach for 5 years. The coach has never been outside except
for use so even though the tires are old, they look perfect. No UV
damage. The frame has been well preserved.
The interior is almost completely original except for a beautifully
done headliner, parquet flooring and cockpit carpeting. The dash is a
MacNeal unit with a digipanel. The furnace has been replaced with a
Suburban unit. Original buzz box. It has the later air suspension
and the bags look in excellent condition. The gaucho setup in the rear
has been converted to a permanent bed. The rear bumper has been
replated and looks as good as new.
The coach has the OEM ball joints and bushings.
In my opinion, this should have been the coach that I bought 12 years
ago. The price is less than what I would ask.
For Dave, TZE166V101445
Previous owners were John and Rita Lineburg, before them it was Donald Lee.
If you are really serious, call them. The Ebay price is pretty close
to the reserve.
Now, tucked away in the shop next to the GMC is a frame off, restored
61 Chrysler 300 convertible. Hemi with 2 4bbls. Never run, never
driven. Rotisserie frame off restoration. It is gorgeous and the
wife will never finish putting it together. Sigh!

Thanks so much for taking the time. I am interested. I know I'll need that roof air working if I transport it back to GA so I wondered who could look at the generator in AZ? I know it is iffy, but any chance the tires might make it back to SE?
I'm assuming this has 16" aluminum wheels. I have trouble shifting back and forth, but it seems like it said wheelcovers.
I'll call them in the AM.

Get ahold of Jerry Miller who services Onans just north of Tucson. jbrown5783atmsn.com (of course use the @ sign where appropriate). He's great and really knows his stuff.

It does not have alloy wheels, wheel covers is correct.
If the dash air works, and there's every indication that it does, you
should't need the roof air while driving.

Stick,
When I bought Double Trouble it had Goodyear G-159 all steel tires on it
that were 8-9 years old. They were in perfect condition (no cracks at all)
as they had always been covered with tire covers when in uncover storage.
They had almost no tread wear. I agonized over whether or not to change them
and got all kinds of advice and suggestions.
I decided to heed the following advice from one of the people whose opinions
I respect a great deal.
"Two schools of thought here Rob. Leave 'em and trust your instincts that
they probably don't suffer from the effects of UV. Inflate them to pressures
based on the MFRs inflation chart for a vehicle weighing 7K lbs in the rear
and 5K lbs in the front. That is a starting point only. I guarantee you
will be thinking about those tires every mile of the trip and your worries
may well be in vain, or well founded. Plus, when you finally switch to good
rag wall, steel belted radial tires, you will have an accurate comparison of
what others here have proclaimed for years. The other school is to switch
and enjoy the trip." Steve Ferguson!
I was lucky because Double Trouble had Alcoa wheels on it so it only cost me
about $750 for six Kuhmo Road Venture KL-78 tires through Discount Tires On
Line. Obviously since the coach you are considering has 16.5" wheels you'll
be up for a set of Alcoa or Eagle wheels. You might get lucky and find a set
of six steel Chevy dually wheels for $50 like Peter Bailey did for $50!

I would say that Stick needs to start bidding up to his
pre-set limit!
Just a little over 2 hours to go!
Lots nicer than what I bought!

Good luck, Stick!
Remember - if it doesn't sell, if the reserve is not met, don't be discouraged. Contact the seller A.S.A.P. and see what the price was. Maybe you could work something out.
My coach was listed as "Parts" on ebay and did not sell. I contacted him and bought it directly. (long story - huge leap-of-faith - but ending well).
I hope you wake up with us in the asylum!

I did not win, but thanks to Ken Henderson and some of the guys at Bean Station I have a couple of others I'm considering. A little more expensive in the short haul, but maybe not overall. Congratulations to whomever bought the Eleganza. Especially thanks to Steve Ferguson for taking the time to evaluate this coach. Your word comes highly recommended.
