Our '74 has the original heater. Blows heat fine. Blows out the pilot every time it shuts off. Blows out the pilot many times when it starts. It is as if the fan goes on before the gas.
Pilot flame is very healthy. Not change with adjusting it.
So, am I ready for a new one? Or is there a fix? If it is time for a new one, where, what kind, etc?
Thanks... wishing I had electric ignition.

There is a solution. Years back when I had a Travco the pilot would
blow out when going down the road. I purchased a kit that had a small
transformer and a sensor that had an electronic ignition. When the
flame would go out it would sense the lack of heat and start to spark
until the flame ignited again.
I will do a search and see if I can find if it is still available.

George,
As an extra safety precaution I would suggest that you have the
furnace checked for Carbon Monoxide leaks. The furnace is close to 37
years old and I would suspect the integrity of the firebox or exhaust
tubing. Not saying that your furnace is bad, but with the advance age
of the unit I would check it.
