I'm installing the Henderson wiper kit. I'd like to put the controls on the dash near or below the existing "Wiper" control. If I remove the screws around the dash plate, does it remove just the veneer or do all of the gauges come out with it? What is the best way to get behind the dash for this?

It sometimes helps to have a friend stand outside and look through the windshield to guide you. (The way the pictures were taken.) Just when you get your head about ready to see what you need to see, you bump it on the windshield.

Larry,
The OEM control lever mounted to a bracket welded on the back side of the
metal instrument panel at the left of the slot. You'll have to break or cut
that off -- probably the worst part of the job. You could then put a metal
plate over that, and the plastic overlay, to cover the slot, with holes
through the dash and new plate for the new controls. BUT, I'm not sure the
control knob's threaded shaft is long enough to go through all that -- the
rheostat's probably is. I don't have a source for longer shafts.
IMHO, the best solution is to mount the control knob in place of the OEM
wiper switch and drill a hole to its right for the delay rheostat. The OEM
lever slot can be covered with an easily cut and polished plate of aluminum.
If the sales volume were larger, I'd have had those made for inclusion in
the kit, but a pair of tin snips and a grinder/sander/file are all that's
needed to make a neat one.
Or you could do as one customer did: Mount the delay rheostat horizontally
behind the dash with a large custom knob's edge extending through the OEM
lever slot.
Good luck. Let me know if I can help.
