Marcel,
One of the best, space making improvements we made to the GMC was to
do what you want to do. Since there's just the two of us, we didn't
need that dinnette taking up all that living space. I found two
adjustable RV style seats and installed them on bases that have
storage under them. Then I copied the OEM hideaway table, making it a
few inches wider than the OEM one. The seats swivel and are the
perfect place to eat, and watch TV from. When it's meal time, we just
swivel the chairs to face each other, swing the table into place and
set the table. It really opened up the interior. I never found those
dinnette seats to be comfortable enough to sit in for very long.

Hi Marcel
When I gutted and renovated the front half of our coach this past summer we had several goals, 1 was to upgrade the colors, 2 was to install a sofa/convert-a-bed that folded out into a nice size bed for family or other couples and 3 to get rid of the dinette.
These are the chairs we purchased to replaced the dinette seating, we also bought the bases, they are very comfortable yet very compact in size. I'd send pictures but we have not installed them yet, ran out of time. I also plan to build a small fold out table for between them. These are very nice seats, I was able to get a local office furniture company that I do business with to buy them for me and give them to me wholesale, cost with shipping was approx. $375 each in the fabric of my choice.

Nice looking seats from Flexsteel..!!
My wife thinks if we'd get a couple of them, use the original fabric from the dinette seats to recover the new Flexsteel ones and find an 'original' looking folding table set up, we should do it & get rid of the dinette. She has a source that can recover them without much of a problem or at too high of an expense.
I think that perhaps saving the original fabric, which by the way, is in great shape might present a problem and also, I don't think removing the original fabric from the dinette seats would provide enough fabric to totally recover the new swivel seats. - Finding new 'original' type fabric is, I guess, impossible which means the stuff on the seats now would have to be salvaged.
Doing this would give us the "original" look to the interior, without having to introduce a new color scheme. Every now and then, one of the original folding tables pops up on the net or Ebay.
Something for us to consider I guess.

Hi Steve
When I tore out my dinette and installed the new sofa, it's unbelievable how much that opened up the coach. We never used the dinette......
I like your idea of keeping the retro look with the new style seats.....maybe you can scrounge up some additional fabric some place if you network hard enough, between that and your dinette fabric you may be able to make it work. There are a lot of people that have cushions, etc stored away.

The rear dinette may be cozy but I don't have the dimensions on it. What
model are you looking at?. I guess there will be diffs from GM builds and
Upfitter builds.

I am considering the purchase of a '78 Royale with front kitchen. The dinette has been removed and replaced with what is essentially a box. Although it could be improved with comfortable cushions, I would like some options that would provide some seating across from the kitchen. Space is a consideration but additional sleeping space is really not necessary. I want to preserve the position of the propane tank in that area.

While on the subject of dinettes I have the seats out of a 77 Royale that
someone can have free for pickup.
This is the design like the '73/'74 GM floor plans. The forward seat sits
on the step to the cockpit. They are in good condition.
They are unassembled so it wouldn't req much space if someone wanted to
transport them for an owner.

Thanks,guys, for both suggestions. I'd be interested in seeing the seats. I'm not stuck on the idea of a dinette, but I would like to rid myself of the "box". I'll try and send a picture, but the file attachment is too large. I know there is a way i just need to get familiar with this forum.

I don't understand the attraction of the little single seats and the little table.
My Royale has the little seats and I hate them. They remind me of the furature my Grandma had, there was just no way to get comfortable in them
I bought, OK aquired, a dinette to put in their place.
Though I'm thinking about turning one sideways and making an L shaped couch with a long table.
