Being a newbie and only focusing on getting the coach road ready, I have not thought through what to bring in a spares kit in case of break down.

Does anyone have a recommended list of parts that are a must have in case of break down? Spare tire and spare airbag is all I was thinking. I see others bring alternators, distributors, etc.

Thanks

Gene,

In case you haven't looked lately, that page,
http://gmcmotorhome.info/SPARES.html, is BADLY out of date. The list of
parts coaches mostly does not have posted dates, but from such comments as
"...told at Niagra...", and posters like Denny Allen, and the one that's
dated '06, it's obvious most of them are by now gone. At the very least,
future postings should be dated.

JMHO,

Ken H.

Just keep our free catalog in your coach and call. We will give you
the part # should you break down.
We are here 6 days a week and can be contacted on Sunday if need be
through our voice mail system which is tied into the pager.

I think a lot has to do with where you drive. Here in Nevada I travel thru areas where there are few places to get common parts so I keep more on board. I keep most of my spare parts behind the bathroom sliding cabinet and I have a list what is there if I need anything as the cabinet would need to be dissembled to get back there. HEI parts should be at the top of your list.

HEI module, belts, fuses, and a roll of duct tape. A small air compressor for blowing up tires or air bags and a two screw in schrader valves (available at Ace hardware for $3.00 each) in case you need to bypass the air system and blow up an air bag or two. Just about anything else is available locally. I unloaded all of the extra crap I use to carry because I never needed it.

I carry belts and fuses, duct tape, and some basic tools. Loading the coach down with spares can get heavy and use up a lot of storage in a hurry. A good chunk of what you might need can be found at an auto parts store. So I agree that it depends on where and how you camp. We stick to mostly state parks and some commercial areas, almost never dry camp, and can usually find what we need so long as it isn't a Sunday in the south!
