Hi all. After the inaugural camping weekend in our Kingsley I reckon I need to raise the Flex-steel dinette seats so that we can see more than just the tops of each other's heads when facing each other across the table. Those things are low....

It looks like it should be easy enough to build a couple of plywood bases, but I am sure it has been done before and would appreciate any photos or advice.

Cheers again

Wouldn't attaching to the wall become an issue? It would in my Royale.

This photo

and the next photo
show how I raised my seats by using a 2x4 on edge base with a 1x4
outside of that. The corners were cut to match the curve of the
dinette with a bandwaw. I moved the door on the dinette near the door
so that it was easier to load things in rather than having to crawl
under the table.

I used long lag bolts through the tabs on the bottom of the seat
frames through the 2x4s and into the floor.

Perhaps the distance from the bottom of my feet to my knees is longer
than yours. :)

The height of the original seat does not allow me to put my feet on
the floor. They must be extended at an angle to sit down. Raising
the seat is much more comfortable for many of us.

By the way my seats are NOT pink! They are a burgundy color and the
carpet is a green, not blue as shown in the pictures.
The flash from the camera really changed the colors.

The P.O. (Bruce Tara) of my coach raised the dinette seats pretty much the same way Emery did, except he used double 2 X 4s flat, making the total added height 3". It is at a very comfortable height and close to standard seat (chair) height of 18". One of the many fine improvements Bruce made to the interior.

Hi Richard,
We have raised two GMC dinette bases now. The attached photo link and the following pictures have descriptions about the height, width, and depth that we used for our bases. We raised the table the same height as the floor. This required a piece of angle iron screwed into the vertical body structure behind the trim panel. If I can do it, just about anybody can!

Oh, I forgot, I had to raise the area on the step under the seat by 3-1/2" also to align the seat bases back to the same mounting surface. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures with dimensions, but if you build the main base, you'll know how to build up the step height as well!

When I raised my dinette seat I did not block it under the seat on top
of the step. This left space for some boxes for storage as shown in
this picture.

Great idea Emery! I've just added another thing to my list of future projects. That will free up some space in one of my other drawers.

A 2X4 usually does the trick. I've done it and seen it done on dozens
of coaches.

FWIW,
I visited Dave Lenzi at his coach during the Montgomery rally. He raised his dinette area also, but framed it in such that he made some hatches over the raised area, and uses the space below for tool storage....NICE use of otherwise wasted space. I'm gonna follow that lead when I get to that part of the resto.

Here is what Arch did, which I always thought was pretty neat:

I'm in the process of installing 2 barrel chairs where we took our dinette out. I purchased the chairs and RV bases but they also were too low. So I purchased 2 pieces of 12" x 12" black UHMW Polyethylene from McMaster Carr.......it machines like a dream is is tough as can be. I cut them down to 10" x 10" pieces and routed the top edges and made spacers to raise up the seats. They make the sheets up to 2" thick.

Have a great day !!!
