There are two light/speaker panels in the cockpit ceiling, one on each side. In between
the light and speaker is a three-position switch. One position turns the light on,
the other turns the light off. But what's the third position for?? I've been trying to
sort this out through the wiring diagram, and I don't get it. Should it turn off the speaker?
Or control some other dome lamp??? Doesn't appear to do anything on our coach, but that's
not too surprising given the state of the wiring.

confusedly,

As you say, there are three positions. The top position (although it
could have easily been reversed by a prior owner) will allow the light
to be turned on by turning the headlight dash know all the way to the
left (I believe its to the left but for sure I do know that it is all
the way to one side.)

The center position is off and the bottom is manually on.

If you leave both the driver and the passenger sides in the top
position then the driver can turn them both on by using the headlight
switch.
If you want just one side on then turn the switch to the bottom. If
you don't want the driver to be able to turn on the passenger side
then leave that side in the center position.

Karen,
If it like mine was. . .
You know one position turns the light on, the middle position the light will not come on and the third position allows them to be turned on by twisting the light switch so the panel light are fully bright and then a little more gets the interior lights.

Give that a try and let us know.
