Actually it was laziness. I had the stuff around. I wanted it to remain stainless and I needed to maintain the seal to keep the air circulation and PCV system working correctly.

Dick Paterson gave a presentation where he was concerned with maintaining the integrity of the oil system seals including he dipstick, oil fill cap, and the elbows for the oil fill pipe.

He wanted this maintained to keep the dirt out while circulating the air properly through the PCV system. That was my reason for choosing the rubber handle. I did not want the air leaking or dirt being drawn into the oil.

I feel both my and Colonel Ken's design accomplish this.
