My friend GaryB used to call me (DIPSTICK) or was it (LUGNUT)?

Stuck , because the flat dip-stick would not go down the tube on the
replacement engine,
and Inspired by Ken Henderson's Cable Dip-stick,
and in a hurry to get something to see where the current oil level was,
and being a little cheap

I built this Cable Dip-Stick

I put knife nicks in the vinyl covering at the 6Q and 5Q marks, so I would
be able to run my finger nail down to find the calibration points when they
were covered by oil (that seemed to work).

I calibrated the dip-stick by laying it beside the flat (original) dip-stick
and cutting it to length, and marking the 5 and 6 quart marks. ( I am not
much of a purist on this oil level thing)

and --Wally -- it is all done , and it slides down the tube slicker than
snot (as we used to say in Orgn.)

Thanks Ken

Thank YOU, Gene. Now I've got another excuse to go a long time between oil
changes: So I can see it on the dip cable. :-)

oops forgot the link to Ken's (dip stick)

Emery says there may be a long term problem with vinyl in hot oil, ;>(
at a buck each, may have to make another one -- will keep an eye on it.

what about the vinyl where it passes by the exhaust manifold? won't that melt the plastic and gum up the tube?
