I'm looking for anyone that could come out and take a look at my coach or a trusted place I can take it to that's close to the Novi - Farmington Hills area.
I know I could take it to Cinnabar but that's a long trip...
Just wondering who the knowledge base is here in my area. I'm a former ASE Master tech so I know my way around a vehicle, but don't know all the GMC particulars.
If someone will make a housecall, I'll compensate you for time and mileage and you won't even get dirty.
Thanks,

I've only had my GMC since last July, so I'm a relative newbie with lots to learn still. I don't feel knowledgeable to help you yet. I'm sure one of the real knowledgeable ones on here will be willing.

Hi Ken,
Its a bit late now for me to give you a "for sure", but I'll check with my mechanic tomorrow and see if I can give out his name/number. My Dad and I may be able to visit too. Let me make some calls tomorrow and I'll hopefully get back to you! I'm in Livonia by the way.

Ken,
Do you have a specific issue?
As an capable mechanic, all you need are the coloring books to know more than most people any close than Sandusky would ever learn. If you don't have them, get the DVD set and print th pages of interest at the time.
I'm no GMC expert (by my evaluation), but I am just down the road.

Thanks for all of the great responses.
I don't have a particular issue other than the coach shaking at this time. I'm assuming the new set of Eagle Wheels, Michelin Tires and KYB shocks (on the way) will solve that.
It's the tribal knowledge I'm looking for. The web is a wealth of info, I have the paper manuals, the paper parts book, and the DVD with everything on it too. However, there's nothing like a second set of eyes that walk up, point and say..."what about that?" and save me from a tow bill and huge repair bill.
I have looked into joining the Greatlakers and know they will be a great resource, but so far the folks I've met live quite a distance from me. I'm interested in meeting people nearby who have "been there, done that" or are in the same boat as me.
Looking forward to getting to know everybody.
Kind regards,
Ken

I probably live the closest to you. I am at 7 mi and I-275. I am on the
"Black List". I have had my coach for over 10 years now. If I do not know
what you need to know, I do know where to find it. Matt Cole is a very good
helper also. He got me going last year for the dream cruise.

I've had my coach since 2003. I'm not an expert mechanic, but I've definitely gotten my hands dirty on the GMC, so I may be able to help with some things. There are a lot of us in your area, most of whom are happy to assist. Please feel free to PM me...I'm always interested in seeing other coaches.

WD0AFQ wrote on Tue, 13 April 2010 14:30 | Also, just down the road from you there will be a work rally near Cincinnati in May.
I am from Detroit myself but left there in 58 @ 4 years old. Did not like the yankee accent.
|
Dan -
Do you have any details on the Cincinnati work rally? I can't make Georgia or Bean Station this year, but Cincy is feasible. BTW, your family picked the right time to leave Detroit...started going downhill after the 50s. I will say, though, you'd feel right at home with the way people talk here in Ypsitucky, er, Ypsilanti.

Ken,
By shakes all the time, do you mean a road speed related shake?
Getting good wheels is a great start - not to mention you will have a much better selection of tires.
Not only am I not that far away, but I also have a '73 23'. Let me tell you right up front, the paper manual reprint of X7525 will lead astray in several areas. Best read the X7425 version before digging in. There are differences with the first run of coaches that were ignored in later service documentation.
I'm sure we will meet before too long.

This is great! Nice to know there's a bunch of local folks on this list!
Thanks for all of the great responses and offers.
I'm going to get the Eagles the LTX's and the KYB's on it this weekend and give it a run.
The next question is who has a front wheel bearing tool??? I'm thinking of doing that as preventative maintenence.
