Hey All;
My brother and I need to replace the transmission in his GMC this
weekend. I know we will need to hold the engine in place, so we will
need to build some type of frame to hold it. Does anyone have any
pictures of what this A-frame should look like? Thanks.

Gary,
I will send you a picture of what I used to remove my engine.
For your purpose you could stick a 4x4 throught the drivers
and passengers windows with a chain and pully. setup.

to drop the tranny all you need is a piece of square tube that spans the hatch. drill and install some threaded rod and chains to bolt to the heads.

Well, you beat me to the posting. I did exactly the same thing.
Take apiece of square tube. If you can find one with holes it in that is good. If not, drill a couple of holes all the way through the tube. I can not remember if I used 5/16 or 3/8" Place the tube across the hatch opening. Then run a pair of long eye-bolts through the tube and hold them in place with nuts and washers. On the eye end attach a pair of short chains. Then bolt the chains to the back of the heads. There are a couple of threaded holes in the back of the heads. Now turn the nuts to take up the slack and you are done.
No A-frame needed. I heard of someone, I believe it was Denny Allen, just using a 2x2 instead of square steel tube on the road one time. I would prefer something slightly stronger.
