Awesome! The first time I replaced the engine in my 23' (before I could get
home with it) took about 3 months! (Including engine & transmission
rebuild).
I knew NOTHING about GMC's at the time.
Is it running?

Gene, leaving the final drive hanging is one of Mannys great ideas. I had removed mine with the tranny so when I replaced it with a Manny trans, It took this old man 2 days working four hours each day to Get Her Done. Wow what a difference a good trans makes in the performance of my caddy engine. The old one was noisy and would slip pushing into the wind down here on the coast. Now I'm planning some long trips. Thanks to Manny for all his help.

all the bolts in a bucket? thats just devilish! haha if you did that to me with a ford, no problem I could sort them out short order, but on a GMC, I think I'd rather put all the bolts into labeled ziplock bags so I know what went where. hopefully I wont have to change my gmc motor anytime soon...
say how did you guys manage to get a cherry picker in the coach?? I look at mine in my storage unit and cant think of a way to do that...

Put back my engine and rebuilt tranny with power drive.
Now the fun begins, Gene needs to put all the accessories in.
All the bolts/brackets were put into a bucket so he needs to figure
out where they go <G>
To get it running, it may take days, weeks months, we'll see.

It is a 23 foot coach with the door right behind the passenger seat. A "van" style cherry picker, with a longer arm, will reach right in from the door.
Not that I have actually done it!

Now that I understand. Remember when I posted a couple of years back about
how I could drop the whole drive train or install it in 30-45 minutes? One
of our dedicated GMC specialists was irate with me: Customers kept calling
wanting to know why he was charging 30 hours later.
Seems I forgot/neglected to mention those days/weeks of sorting through
those buckets and un/hooking stuff & chasing leaks & etc., & etc. :-(

I must admit that I have more than once done the bolts in the bucket thing only to regret it later. I have used the sandwich bag with magic marker but also use cardboard cutouts for orientation for those instances where the bolt diameter is same but different lengths etc. The little time it takes to keep them organized pays off when it comes to reassembly. Obviously I'm not talking about using this on small projects but intensive tear-downs like engine install, rebuilds etc. If I can get it apart I can get it back together, and work, without the trial and error of which hole does the long one go in.
Just a thought. HIH
