Thanks for asking, Billie. She is doing as well as can be expected at
this time. Her surgeon has said that in his 20 years of surgery he
has only seen about 5 patients that have completely torn loose their
deltoid ligament. This is the main one that holds the ankle / foot to
the leg bones. He had to put in a screw to hold it to the bone.
There are other smaller ligaments that are torn but he said he would
have to operate on them later as there was so much swelling that he
couldn't do it at this time.
She cannot put any weight on her foot. She is just wrapped with an
ace bandage and padding and they want to wait a week or so until the
swelling goes down some before putting on a cast.
She will get a walking cast in about 8 weeks but won't be able to
start physical therapy for about 15 weeks.
Since she is nursing a 3 month old she cannot take much in the way of
pain killers.
We don't know how long we will be here in Denver but probably for
quite some time.
Emery
