I installed one of Jim's door pins, but how do I adjust it properly? The
door catches so it won't fall open, but it doesn't latch fully closed.
Do I move the pin inward or outward a little? My thought was to move it
out a bit, but don't want to keep re-doing it every so often.

Let me know when you find out Ron. My door has been rearced, and I
have a Curtis latch pin and it still needs a firm hand to close. Bugs
the heck out of me when I can't figure something out that has so few
moving parts.

I was honored to purchase the first pin that Bert built. I had to work with it. I have not re curved the door, even though I need to. After fiddling with it for a while I hit the "sweet spot". One finger closes our coach door. Teri was always upset because I slammed the door. Now, Teri is a happy lady. I can not tell you how to adjust it properly. I just tinkered with it til I got it right, then I tightened the screws as tight as I could get them. Jim K. sells the ones that the Curtis' make. It is a one piece thing where the original pin was two and mine had collapsed.

In the interests of fairness, it should be remembered that Bill Bramlett was
the originator of the one-piece door striker. He brought me one at a rally
years ago, insisting that I install it. I didn't for a couple of years
because I thought our door closed pretty nicely. Something finally
stimulated me to put it on & adjust it -- no problem. It was astounding
what the effect was! Suddenly the door closed like a new Cadillac's.

As usual, Bill wouldn't take anything for it. I don't know the details, but
I suspect he finally just told Burt & Faye to start making them 'cause he
didn't want to fool with it any more.

It should be called the Bramlett Striker or some such.

Ron, I'm not familiar with the new pin (or striker as we call it at Ford), but have you tried altering the door latch position? My Dad and I have adjusted that over the years and left the pin alone to remedy any closing problems. The 4 screws on the metal door frame can be loosened, then the latch mechanism can be moved towards the inside of coach (when door is closed) or out. It never takes too much movement for us to usually work it out.

Is the new pin offset from the original position? If its moved outboard, then I would guess the latch mechanism has to be adjusted outboard as well.

Two things the Bill and / or Bert found is the original pin was s not solid but instead had a rubber collar covered by a thin steel striking surface. The rubber under the striking surface has deteriorated over the years causing it not to engage the latch correctly anymore. They other thing they discovered is many of the pins which were welded to the plates are now loose. These welds obviously broke over the years.

The new/rebuilt pin is solid with no rubber and the weld is strengthened so it will not break.
