Well, I just completed the first road test, 15 mile country road loop. Then
engine runs fine. After replacing the 19-1/2" 5 blade fan with an 18" 7
blade one, there's no more shroud contact so everything was nice and quiet.
I think the smaller fan moves more air, even with the poor fit to the
shroud.
BUT, when I got back on the rack, I immediately saw another large oil leak.
I'm not sure it's not just loose oil coming out of the un-used and
un-plugged radiator oil cooler -- sure hope that's it.
The VSS is not working: Neither speedometer, cruise control, no ECU are
getting a signal. My repositioning to a cooler location, or the revised
wiring has created a problem.
The ECU still thinks the engine is knocking like crazy -- even with the KS
suspended by tywraps in mid-air under the coach. And I have a continuous
Service Engine Soon (SES) light and an Error Code (EC) 43 (Electronic Spark
Control (ESC) problem), so my Computer Controlled Distributor (CCD) can't
really do its job.
Add to all that the critical need to lube the chassis before any more
travel; the yard in a mess since the hired yard man had a heart valve
replaced 10 days ago; my 93 yo mother being ill; and, all the other piddly
little things likely to crop up, and it's just time for me to admit defeat.
I've been pushing myself too hard for the past two weeks trying to make the
trip to Montgomery happen; it makes no sense to continue when the outcome
now so much in doubt.
Y'All who planned better have a great time. Enjoy a few minutes for us.
And plan to visit us on your way to or from GMCES next month at Calhoun,
GA, only 198 miles north of us.
Sadly,
Ken H.
