Yep, some years ago ,about my daddy decided that the old 1000 gal gas
tank setting out back would be better as a 400/600 diesel/gas tank. He
got it cut about half way around whe we were exposed to a VERY
impressive flame from the tank. The tank had set empty about 4 or 5
years. I have soldered gas tanks but would never consider welding a gas
tank (don't have the know how or correct toys).

When I used to braze cracks on Harley gas tanks, I just stuck an air
hose in the filler opening and let air blow through there at low psi.
Never had a pop.
