G'day,
I know we've gone over this several times but I just can't seem to get my
head wrapped around it.
I use Microsoft Outlook and the email list exclusively.
When I send in new message I always get a copy in my Outlook Inbox.
When I reply to a question sometimes I get a copy in my Outlook Inbox and
sometimes I don’t.
If I get a copy back does it mean that the question to which I have replied
was posted via the email list?
If I do not get a copy back does it mean that the question to which I have
replied was posted via the forum?
If I do not get a copy back does it mean that no one on the email list got a
copy either?
I apologize for being dense but it is very frustrating to spend the time
trying to help and answer questions if the responses don't get to the people
that ask the questions!
Regards,
Rob Mueller

Hi Rob
If you received the message with Outlook it means it came through the
mailing list, it may have originated at the forum but there is no difference
for us email users.
I always see my own postings, except when my filters think it is spam. I
have my email spam filtered by Google (Postini) but it knows about the
GMCnet so it never interferes but my local Outlook junk filter occasionally
does.
If you do not get a copy of your postings it means either it didn't get
through or your filters have stopped it. If your only filtering is Outlook
and it didn't appear in your junk folder then I think it is safe to assume
it didn't get through.
I don't think a reply to a message that originally came from the forum is
treated any different than any other reply.
There is an option on the list server enable you to receive your own posts,
you must have that checked or you would never see your own posts. There is
also a setting to receive acknowledgement email that tells you your message
has been received. You may want to activate that as well until you are sure
everything is working properly, better to get an extra email than wonder if
a message actually got through.
Of course it could be some form of inverted logic because of your down under
location ;<)
Good Luck

ALL GMCnet email is handled by the email list server. The forum does not get involved in any way.
If you are missing emails, it is a problem between the email server and you. It is probably a SPAM filter problem somewhere in the route to your machine or it is filters you have set on your machine. I have also seen where some ISP's would throw away emails when they got busy. AOL use to be good at that but I have not heard that complaint recently. Maybe no one is left on AOL.
