A big thanks to Dave Mumert
Yesterday Dave traveled an hour in to Calgary to help out a fellow GMC'er with his trusty TZE Bearing Puller, One was very tight but the drivers side almost fell out, It had a lot of play I can't believe we traveled more then 3000 Km's through the BC Mountains last year (I thought they where good?) I will have to order two new Knuckles but was able to get the hubs done locally.
Again a big thanks to Dave for going out of his way to help me out. (This is really a great community)

I met Dave a couple of years ago before I found my first GMC, I spotted his GMC in an alley, I kept going by until I found him at home.
He took me right through his unit (It was the first one I had seen inside)
Well after that I was hooked, and now I own three.
"DAM YOU! DAVE MUMERT DAM YOU!"
Anyhoo it's great to have a guy like Dave in our area.
His knowledge on these units is outstanding.

Gary,
That's a double edged sword. Don't check them and you could have
problems. Check them and you may do more harm than good. Every
seminar I've attended on this topic seems to point out that most
damage occurs from disassembly and reassembly. The easiest answer is
to just replace them with new ones. It sure makes for peace of mind
when you're cruising down the highway.
Sometimes we don't listen to everything the professionals tell us, or
decide not to do something recommended in order to keep the budget in
order. If "da man" say the knuckle bore is a little sloppy and you
should replace the knuckles, but you decide not to, who should get
the blame for the later failure?
Get the front of the coach off the ground, grab the top of the tire
and the bottom and see what you have for slop. If you have any thing
beyond 1/16th, it could either be ball joint slop, or bearing play.
The maintenance manual has procedures for checking ball joint slop.
Disassembly seems the only way to check actual bearing problems. Take
a hard look at those lower control arms as your coach is well above
average on the scales.
