Hi,

let me introduce myself, i'm Jeroen Mutsaers living in the Netherlands and a proud owner of a 1973 (completely restored) palm beach.
We just purchased the motorhome in NY and shipped it to the netherlands.
One issue left, we need new tires, unfortanutely it still holds the 16,5'wheels a size we are not able to purchase in the netherlands.
Could someone point me out to a good place to buy these online and have them shipped, or a good distributer in Europe maybe ?

regards,

Jeroen

Hej Jeroen,

Cooper still makes 16.5 tires and they are very good.

I will have Mary Jane look the tire size up on the web from a place
that sell them at the best that we have found and then see if they
will sent them to you.
We just coordinate this and not charge you for the service. We have
done these before so it should not be too difficult.

You may try:
www.tirerack.com
www.discounttire.com
www.pepboys.com

I would recommend getting new 16" wheels so you can get tires more easily in NL.

Please post photos of your coach to the photo site.

No, and Jeroem's is a very early 73 so no one-off prototype possibility,
either.
The coach was listed but no other owners knew what model it was, which
means I don't either.

Jeroen,

Is there a reason you have to stay with 16.5 inch wheels?
Seems it would be cheaper in the long run to replace the wheels with 16 inch wheels. (I ASSUME that 16 inch tires are available...)

Leon,
There is going to be a semi annual GMC international Convention in
Montgomery TX
http://www.gmcmi.com/ There should be anywhere from 125 to 150 GMC coaches
there. From your posts it sounds like you might not know as much as you
should
about these coaches and a trip to this convention could possibly be well
worth
your time and expense. There are cabins available for those without coaches
and
you don't need to register for the full convention. Look at the schedule and
go from
there. At one of the conventions you can meet a lot of the people that post
to this site.
I don't know anyone that wouldn't be happy to answer your questions and
enlighten you
about GMC's. Also I recommend you go to http://gmcmotorhome.info/ and read
"So you want to buy a GMC" Very informative article.

Sadly TZE+ is no longer around. You could remove that link.

I used to think that reducing the center of gravity by using as much aluminum up high was a great idea. Darren's cabinets would have done the trick, and if we could have found an easy way to mount the A/C under the coach then the center of gravity would be much improved. This was when I was Enviously Lurking. Now that we have our Palm Beast those niceties are academic. She drives so well as-is that there is little need to make big changes.

But there is still that little geek inside...

Hej Jeroen,

I went to www.cooper.com, ...then to 'CONTACT US' and left a message with my
e-mail address, requesting six (6) Radial AST - Discoverer - 8.75R16.5 SLT
tires to be sent to the Netherlands. Will see what they reply. These are 'D'
range tires that work well for me but that you may not want. Once we know
they will ship to EU, then we can adjust the size to suit you.

Also, I have a businessman friend, who is from the Netherlands, who might be
willing to arrange shipment for you. If we can ship coaches to the
Netherlands, we should be able to ship some tires.
