Cecil Miller, a long time GMCMI and Dixielander member, passed away January
25, 2010. Cecil had been in declining health since Nov. '08 at which time
he was diagnosed with multiple cancers throughout his body that had caused
his stomach, spleen and pancreas to grow together preventing the normal
digesting of food. Much of the time from Nov. '08 until his death was
spent in the hospital culminating, in his final days, in hospice care.

Cecil loved his wheeled "toys", like 2 GMC's (23' Birchhaven & 28' Palm
Beach which he named "Kermit" that he had, personally, stretched but had
not finished the interior), and numerous Corvairs, many in "show" condition
and rare due to their limited production, in addition to a fifth wheel and
30 foot travel trailer. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Pat. There
were no children.

All this was announced to the Dixielanders back in late January and
recently in their newsletter. The reason I announce this to the GMCnet is
that Cecil's wife Pat wants me to sell Cecil's GMC's. Cecil and I had
traveled to Cincinnati in August, 2007, to pick up the 77 Birchaven. He
drove it to my garage and it has been sitting in my garage ever since. He
was in the process of replacing all the water lines in the coach; he had
purchased new faucets and had installed a new propane/electric water heater
(but not hooked up yet). He had started removing some of the external
caulking on windows and seams. The coach needs to be buffed and polished.
The front stripes are faded and cracked. The driver's side windshield has
fogging around it; the passenger side was replaced, but someone hit it with
a BB and it has a small chip to the right side. It still has the original
wheels. Cecil paid $12,500 for this coach. I think a fair price for this
coach, as is, would be $7500. It does not have any drive train leaks and
has a 455 engine.

The stretched 77 Palm Beach also has a 455 engine and a Danny Dunn rebuilt
tranny with about 250 miles on it. The coach has been gutted. Cecil
purchased the new style windows from Motorhome Enhancements and has the up
front windows installed, but not the rear side windows. This coach has
been sitting under a tarp at Cecil's home since 2006. We had intended to
restore it at my garage, but never found the time. The coach had the sides
painted in Palm Beach colors, but the roof was not painted. If someone
wants a stretch to finish, this might be a candidate. I'm not sure how
much, if any, of the original interior is left. He had purchased new
Carrier A/C's for it; they are still in the box. The ZipDee awning was
removed and is available. This coach also has a 455 in it. She is asking
$5000 for it.

I am currently working on my daughter's 73 Painted Desert. I will start
working on Cecil's Birchaven in mid-April to finish up what he started,
after my daughter and wife leave for a trip from NC to the Oregon coast in
early April. I am thinking about hosting a one day work rally, May 3rd, at
my farm here in Winston Salem to finish Cecil's Birchaven. This rally
would be for those Dixielanders (and anyone else) that might be heading
east after the Bean Station rally if they would like to help. Arrival
could be May 2nd or 3rd; departure May 3rd or 4th. I can provide water and
a place to dump; plenty of room to park. If anyone is interested in
either of these coaches, please email me privately. I can get pictures of
the Birchaven now and will get pictures of the stretched Palm Beach
sometime in April if it ever warms up here and any other information.
