I have been carrying around a 2 inch drop bracket for about 3 years. I'd like to install it. Can't quite figure it out. I got it from Bert Curtis. It is two pieces that bolt together and is sloped. Anyone dropped their steering wheel with this bracket? I guess I need a picture.

I did Dan. It is probably a Mac bracket. Curtis Unlimited does not
make a panel for it. No one does.

If it's the same as the ones I got from the Curtis's, they don't bolt together, but rather act as spacers once you unbolt the steering wheel retaining bolts on either side of the steering wheel), allowing the wheel to drop and then you simply bolt them between the steering wheel support plates. You should also have 4 more stove bolts to bolt them up. I don't have a picture, but once you pull the wheel down, it's pretty self-explanatory how they go in. There's not a lot of room to work in there, but it can be done and I certainly like the new position of the wheel.

That's it George. I got in there once but gave up, a couple of years back. I got a picture of a similar one from off net. I think I can get it in the morning.
Thanks,
Dan

I still can not figure Bert's bracket out. I have a copy of the diagram with Mac's but it is different. Since I have raised the driver's seat 3 inches I am thinking this bracket is not needed by me. Anyone at Montgomery want one, let me know.

Dan,
I wish we had had more time to talk when I met you at Miguel's shop.
Since you drive your GMC more than most I wanted to know if you have done anything to your seat or steering wheel to increase driver comfort.
I have driven 2 different GMC's 80,000+ UNCOMFORTABLE miles since 2002.
I am only 5'10" @ 165 lb and I find the GMC driver space more cramped than any vehicle I have driven. It is very uncomfortable for me on long trips.
I don't understand how the taller and heavier GMC'ers can drive these coaches.

If I move the seat all the way back, I can't reach the top of the steering wheel (my arms are proportional to my body size) and there still is not enough room to extend my left leg which begins to hurt at the hip after a while.

Did raising the seat 3" give more leg room and increase comfort? Can you post pictures or explain how you did it?

My original seats were changed by the PO. They have adjustable backs and arm rests and are much more comfortable than the originals.

I recently dropped my steering wheel about 1" by installing washers as a spacer. I can't drop it any further without removing the Bert Curtis close out below the steering column which houses my gauges. So I don't want to do that.

Surely I'm not the first GMCer to complain about this.

All suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Gene, I have done a good bit to make this thing more comfortable for me. I wish we could have talked when you were at the shop and I could have shown you. It was very uncomfortable for me when we got it. I knew nothing about a wheel drop so I started looking at the seat. We have non factory seats that I really like. They are flexsteel big ones that are comfortable. Now, what I did first was, raise my seat. I pulled the seat from the runner and cut a 2x4 to length, 2 of them. Stood them up and drilled them to fit the runner and put the seat back on them. That raised the seat 3 inches as I cut a little off the 2x4 so it was 3 inches. I liked that but there was more to do. I turned the runner around backwards and mounted the seat. Now I can pull the seat closer to the wheel. If a tall guy wanted to drive this he would need to turn the runner back around. I can swivel my driver's seat all the way around and face the rear of coach now. Also, Teri can drive it comfortably now. She is 5'2". As a side note, Teri really likes the new sensatized booster we got from Jim. Takes little pressure to get the brakes applied now. Makes me a little less nervous with her at the wheel.
Chris, I was frustrated yesterday. I am not really ready to get rid of the wheel dropper yet.
Hope this helps. The GMC is very comfortable for us now. I have driven it as far as 800 miles in one day before Teri made me stop.
Dan

Im glad im not the only one unhappy with my seat!

Now i dont have to feel guilty thinking bad thoughts about my factory seat. I hate that the back isnt adjustable, and i cant wait to find some Conversion Van electric seats to put in my Coach.

Hi All..
I used a MAC drop and installed a pair of Jim Bounds seats.. Improved the comfort level so much it's hard to describe.. IU think the drop made the most difference.. The seats are great but didn't do much for the strange angle in the column..

Our seats had already been changed to some big comfortable seats. I just could not understand why I hurt so bad and was so aggitated after I got this thing home. I started putting a pillow in the seat to raise me up. Hmmm, why not raise the seat? So that is what I did. Made a world of difference for me. I am like Ron now in that I dont want to stop. We have driven 800 miles in one day and I stopped only because Teri made me. It is very comfortable now. I did not raise the passenger seat because Teri did not want me to. I do plan to move the passenger seat over closer to the wall. When they retrofitted our coach they got the passenger seat too close to the hatch opening and it bugs me.
I say do what you want to your coach to make it suit you better.
