Monday we should see the 77Royal pull into our place so that we can
start the first phase of their project.
We will be gutting out the interior, then working on the drive train for them.
After that, it will be driven to Spokane,WA for an interior work then
to Southern CA for a paint job.
Jim Bounds will be keeping his eyes and fingers on the project to make
sure it is not going to become a disaster.
Miguel Mendez went over to North Hollywood to do some work on the
coach so it will make it up to our place in Northern
CA.
Our guys have been advised that they will be involved in the filming
and be seen by people accross the country.
I could not get away to go to Japan to get my eyes rounded so I would
blend in with our crew.

Jim,

This should be an interesting project, I've watched their videos and I'm so

I almost ran our and fell on my sword after watching this video. They say what about our beautiful coach's?  Like hell! ....but then I realized I'm thinking like their grandpas. 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. Such is life.

As wisdom is validated by her children, we will have to just wait and see how they 'improve' on the classic design of our GMC's.

Thanks Rob.

Howard: You sure have a way with words. I also am curious about some of the stuff that will "improve" the design. Changing the gas fill to the pass side? Doesn`t this mean mirror imaging the gas tanks? or can they just be turned around? What about the exhaust, won`t it have to run down the drivers side? Pulling up to a pump island and opening the door against the pumps? Yes it will be expensive and unique but "improved"? I wonder what is going to happen when it is finished and they go to DMV in California to get inspected? It really reminds me of my "new improved $40,000 leg prosthesis". Looks good on paper, but walks like crap.

I am not trying to put anybody down for making their coach unique and improved. I hope we all learn from their experiences.

Fortunately they do not touch the coach.
They did not get it when Miguel Mendez told them that they should have
a better fan clutch before driving to our place. If they cook the
engine, I'm not donating Engine and labor.
We know we will never get back much for all that we will put out. Wes
@ Cinnabar indicated that they are the only people that can do things
correctly.
I'll try to keep my mouth shut and my eyes open. Jim Bounds at least
has round eyes so you do not notice his mouth when it is open most of
the time.
Manny Trovao might get into this if we trick him.

JimK, I have to agree with Rob, Howard, Ron, Gene and Chuck.
Much of the thinking in the video is not unique or improvements of the overall original design. Yes, things like new roof A/C units and a microwave oven do make the interior more functional but their exterior ideas do nothing to the wow power. ...but I wonder if the whole idea of the video is nothing more than a showcase of what is what the different equipment manufacturers and shops can incorporate.

They also mention removing the rub rail and smoothing the area. I know that some of you have done that but I have heard somewhere that because one side is aluminum and the other side is fiberglass ( I know that it is not fiberglass but I am blank on what it is) the thermal expansion is different and the "improvement" will crack. What has been your experience?

Thank you Gene, I know you are not easily impressed. Wait till you see my new trick knee accessory. It swivels 360*, now I have to look at my foot when I get up to make sure it is pointing in the direction I want to go.

Someone here has all that detail.
I try not to involve myself with these detail unless it becomes
something I need to deal with.
All I know is that there will not be all that modification done to the coach.
I know we not going to be throwing money at it and I do not see anyone
else willing to pay us for labor.

Jim,

Sounds this is like the deal that Jim B got involved with on the Land Speed
GMC built by Dyno Sources. As I understand it Jim found the coach, did a lot
of work on it to make it roadworthy so they could drive it up to the DS shop
in Washington and never got a dime for it what he did and never got any
credit either!

Someone here has all that detail.
I try not to involve myself with these detail unless it becomes
something I need to deal with.
All I know is that there will not be all that modification done to the
coach.
I know we not going to be throwing money at it and I do not see anyone
else willing to pay us for labor.

Rob,
my partner Nick, was smart enough to request that the coach be
available for us to use to take to at least one convention and one
Western States Rally.
We have a Legal Beagle on our Cooperate board that will probably draw
up papers and do a Pearl Harbor if we need to.
This type of a project is something that we do for fun. There will be
no real financial benefit.
Did you know that Manny T. is now on our Corp. Board.

Hey Brother Chuck,

What you lost in your leg, you made up for in your brain. I hadn't thought of the things you mentioned. I think I'll keep my coach the way it is. What purpose does it serve to make the changes they suggest and where in lies the financial feasibility? Perhaps "much to do about nothing", as Shakespeare said.  I guess only time will tell.

As Gene mentioned, you've always got a leg up on the rest of us. Look forward to seeing you and the Red Head soon at Bean Station, ...or before.

Thanks for the post, which I didn't get except through Gene's post. Thanks Gene : ).

I hope we all learn from their experiences.[/quote]

Chuck,

Don't bad mouth that prosthesis, you are the only person I know that can sit on a chair and put your let straight up by your ear.  I was impressed!
