The adjuster I was dealing with put me in touch with road side assistance. That is where I should have been to start with. He must have been sensing the fact that I was fed up with his questions. I got a call this morning from a very nice lady, Vickie. She said because the GMC has a special drivetrain that they were paying the 1086.00 tow bill in full. The check went in the mail today. I think it is time to say goodbye to Good Sam and save my 100.00. I am very thankful to get the tow bill paid as we are in need of a new transmission now. I really appreciate Miguel and Manny discussing my situation and then having Jim K. send us a tranny that should get here tomorrow. These 3 guys have really gone out of their way to help Teri and me.
Life is good in South California. Went to LA today and got some great pictures for the blog.

Dan,
That is great to hear!

I wish we could get that up here... that 2400. + taxes = 2800.00 still stings here.

I think most neglected GMC's you find for sale at desolate locations start out as stories like yours without the happy ending.

Ron, the chain had too much play in it. Was getting another chain from Manny. Then Manny called Miguel back and had him check something. No sense in wasting a new chain. We had other wear. So, because Manny thought to have Miguel check it he saved us a headache down the road. Jim K. has a transmission from Manny on its way here now. Teri and I feel like we are the most blessed members of this group. Where could we have received such expert help from 3 of the pros? And, they are all relatively close. If we had to break, we did it in the best place possible. I am not discounting any of the other shops, just saying we feel very fortunate to have had this help.

Now you will have that fresh powertrain feeling and smell. Or you can now call the TZE a 2010 model for those campgrounds that don't accept 'old' coaches.

Dan,
Glad that Proggresive came through for you. I also have them for the MH.
Can we know what was checked on the tranny to make the determination to replace it? To satisfy curiosity, and knowledge.
Thanks.

I believe he had a stretched or worm chain and sprockets. I know he also had a small leak he wanted to fix while it was out of the coach. What better time to change it for a know good heavy duty Manny transmission since it is already out of the coach.

Now he is going to have to go back to chasing parolees for a while to pay for all of this. It isn't going to be cheap.

How about raffling off something to help pay this off.

Adrian, I just don't know. Manny called Miguel with some concerns this morning and had him look at somthing having to do with the the back side of the gears or something. Was worn bad. Maybe Manny or Miguel will see the thread and make mention of what it was. I am sure Jim K. also knows what they found as he is in the loop. I know nothing about automatic transmissions.
We are very happy with Progressive paying the tow bill from Quartzsite to Montclair. I can eat for the rest of the month now when my next check shows up. Very Happy Think I will forget Good Sam @ this point. It is obvious to me now just what Good Sam's considers to be a "qualified repair shop".

Maybe they will loose enough renewals because of your experience to get their attention. I for one will never use them based on your experience.

Good to hear that Dan.
I had a similar experience only my predicament was that I was
blocking traffic, a deputy was about to tag and tow so I hung up on
Good Sam (forever hold) and called an independent. GS paid the entire
bill.

There are snap rings that keep the chain drive gear shafts in place. If they fail, which is somewhat common, the gears and shafts will move outward and rub on the inside of the chain cover. I experienced this several years ago. There is no mistaking what is happening by the sound it creates. The problem is that the groove for the snap ring wears and the ring will pop out of the groove. When Manny rebuilds these, I assume that he checks the tolerance of the grooves.
I have Progressive insurance with road service and dropped Good Sam about three months ago. I have not needed to use either but I am glad to here about Dan's experience. It helps to validate my decision.
Thanks for the updates Dan, I am glad you are being well cared for. Breakdowns can be stressful but it has worked out well for you.

Rick

Rick, words can not relate the way Teri and I have been treated here. Tonight we were guests of Fin and Mary Bevin. What a meal.
Miguel has treated us like we are part of his family. Jim K. and Manny have worked hard to get us what we need to keep Miguel and Ryan busy. Every night this week we have been with friends. For Friday evening we had two invites. Maybe we can turn one into a Saturday evening. The shop owners around Miguel have been very friendly and accomodating, even feeding us last Saturday. I feel like I could write a book about the people in Southern California. We like it out here and plan to make it a yearly trip to see our new found friends. I hope we can pass on some of the hospitality that we have received.

Dan,

The Man (Woman?) upstairs knows what kind of people you and how you and Teri
treat others and watches out for you!

As far as Helen and I are concerned you're hospitality account is in the
black! ;-)

See you later this year.
