Dan,

Well the fact that it's all out is good news!

"Little shavings, or sparkles, in the pan" sounds like the Don Ho song "Tiny
Bubbles" unfortunately the sparkles didn't make you feel fine!

Just trying to cheer you up! ;-)

Hey Dan,
Good to see that your are getting all the best of help.
Got a question for you, as I was reading your blog you mentioned that
you had to get back to see the installation of a limited slip final
drive for your friend Neil. By any chance is this the long awaited GMC
M/H drive?

Yes Nelson. That is it.
Got the thing tore down. Miguel could not stand it so he tore into it for you guys, I really did not care because I knew it was broke. That was all I needed to know.
Anyway, compression ring, number 1 piston, gone. Got pics I will get up later. Teri says I am taking her to supper so I am out of here for now.
Thanks everyone, GMC folks are the best. Very Happy

I think it's time for an "Unpaid Commercial Announcement" from JimK on this
topic. We've all been kept in suspense for too long. He can be trusted to
give us a (relatively) unbiased evaluation, so we should declare a
one-message moratorium on the commercial posting prohibition (which really
has big sanctioned loopholes anyway). :-)

G'day Ken,

Jim K had one of the final drive LSD units on display at Pueblo. I looked it
over and it's a pretty simple unit. I agree with you I think it would be a
good idea for him to take some pictures, put together a simple explanation
of how it works and to update us on the testing status.

To keep him from getting in trouble on the GMCnet he can put it on his
website under "Instructions."

If you want to see what has been said about it so far log on to:

http://gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforum/

And do a search for "Limited Slip Differential."

A few messages will pop up that can be reviewed.

Hi Nelson,

Like you, I knew Jim was working on LSD (hehe) but did not know it was
completed. It looks like it would accept any ring gear. Manny may not be
happy however, because this will allow more people up his driveway!
Seriously, it seems to me that this will solve the traction problems for
people with spacers. I also think urethane bushings may solve the same
problem or help with it. I wonder if this has proven to be the case? Steve
are you listening?

That is what took out our engine out back in 2005 coming home from Oregon.
Maybe its time to call Jim K for the detonation warning thing he sells
For now we are using Susie good ears.
Mine are shot from loud engine noise.
Loved sound at the time.

It is indeed my coach. We live at the end of an uphill turning 680 foot driveway. When we go out with a trailer, I always drop the trailer on return, before going up the last bit, and pull it with a truck, having learned what happens when you have a trailer, are going up a steep hill with sharp turns and no momentum (outside wheel spins and smokes in place). I am not sure if even a LSD will make it a one shot operation, but who knows.

I have a 3.70. Jim K sent a LSD with a 3.70 installed and takes the existing 3.70 back. So it was all ready to pop in. Miguel is concurrently finishing up my new motor install, new final drive/lsd install, fan in the bath and straightening out a bent bogie.

Today's rain put our roads under deep water, so I don't know when it comes home.

The LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL has been working in 5 coaches.
It has not done anything to give any indication of any abnormal action.
We can supply the following ratios: 4.10,3.70,3.55,3.07, and 3.42.
You can go to our web site or better yet call on our toll free line.

C'mon, Jim, I cracked the door for you -- you don't have to just meekly give
us that "...no...abnormal..." drivel -- you can lay it on thick about all
those great new features, like climbing 20% grades in knee-deep mud at 1/2
throttle, pushing a plow through 3' snowdrifts, parking in the surf without
getting stranded, etc., etc.! What does it REALLY do for us?

Detonation damage?

[/quote]

I saw the engine damage today and the first thing I asked, was about detonation.
The top of the piston has a small spot that looks "chewed" away from something. It is right above where the ring broke.
Is it possible the detonation would eat the top ring after having eaten the piston?
