Taking to Miguel's. In Indio now. Gmc is on a flatbed. It wont be cheap ride but I need people I can trust. Miguel is the one for us now. 213 miles from Q to his shop.
thanks so much for all of the fone calls and offers of help. I just can not thank folks enuff. Will have a write up on the blog when we get settled. About 100 miles to go.
Thank you everyone. Sorry for late update. Internet was in GMC and I could not stay close enuff to keep us online. I grabbed it here at truckstop and put in car.

Sorry to hear about the breakdown. I always though that the GoodSam towing was a fair deal, but now I see you don't get much for your $100 a year.

I hope you find something minor that sounded major.

I also have Progressive. I hope they will help me out with the bill. I have roadside in the Progressive policy. Being Saturday afternoon Teri and I were going to have to unload in an rv park til shops opened Monday. I guess we could have done this til we worked our way to Miguel's but I did not want to wait to have each shop say they would not work on it and get another tow truck to tow us farther west. Not a good thing but at least we will be safe at Miguel's. Right now we are waiting on tow truck to get thru the scales. We have another 50 miles to go and its getting dark. Hope we can find it. I have the tracker on in the car. It is wd0afq-1.
Thanks again for everyone's concern. WE have had so many folks call and email in addition to the net.

Bummer about your engine and towing issues. But while you are waiting for the work to be done, there are two or three GMC's on Craig's list very close to Miguel's that others may be interested in:

This one seems to have a very interesting interior and I, for one, would like to see more:
<http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/rvs/1575876882.html>

This is a cheap shell or could be a good source for parts:
<http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/rvs/1573668043.html>

And in Riverside:
<http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/rvs/1571735886.html>

I do not think I could by any of these... I have two already.

Think of it like looking for those GPS things.... Very Happy

Dan,
Good to hear you and your home are on the way to get repaired.
Please make sure we get the post mortem on the engine problem.

Gmcers,

Not that i am pushing one or the other.i have AAA rv towing and my airbags colapsed on me.they couldent even take on the job.i had to subcontract to a comp with a lowboy trailer.mine was not towable.would not take the job unless i agreed to a 3 hour min.at the cost of 450 to go about 10 miles.you have a 100 mile range or a credit depending on the plan.the driver called up to verify i had coverage.located the company i needed with the right equip.there sappose to provide what ever i need at the time.i got fully re embursed from them.but i have had problems with car towing.they allmost lost there contract for a real blunder.the comp that was dispatched to tow my car.just thought id let you know.

Hope you get it solved fast...

1,084 dollars and we are here in Miguel's lot, safe and sound. I am going to rest good tonight. I will see what Progressive says, I have the bill. This is in addition to what they charged Good Sam. I do not know what that cost. The best I could get from the supervisor was Good Sam's would tow 50 miles or to nearest person that said they could fix our coach. I know I got ripped good but I am where I wanted to be. I know Miguel is going to take care of us with help from Jim K, parts, and Manny, our parts carrier. I may or may not need Good Sams in the future, depending on what Progressive says. While teri was reading our Progressive policy today she found that we no longer have a deductible on our windshields, and one of them is fogging bad.
Thank you again for all of your support. Meant more to Teri and me than you will ever know.
Should you want to see exactly where Miguel's shop is, go check the tracker, WD0AFQ or WD0AFQ-1.
Dan

Dan,

When we puked a rod in our 403 in Charlotte, N.C.,It only cost
nineteen hundred to come home to central Ohio. What makes
it so expensive is crossing state lines. Most of the wrecker
services around here can't justify the insurance costs for
interstate
hauling. We had to use a big twin-screw truck wrecker.
Fortunately, State Farm paid the bill in full. Love those
people.

Hmmm,
I don't think Dan would ever want to go that fast in a GMC.

I was never in Dan's situation during my GMC days. Once, in eastern Colorado, wintertime, my bags went down (compressor went south) and I aired them up at a gas station from the front fitting. At my destination, Ft Collins, I bought a sears compressor, and at NAPA, bought shrader valves for each bag and fittings to screw them in. Always carried that stuff after that.

My GM 4106 bus blew the top off it's muffler and that round piece of steel "took a ride" thru my radiator with the help the fan. I needed a tow, 60 miles, and AAA sent a wrecker out. We stopped every 10 miles to run the engine so my tranny would be lubed. Did not disconnect the driveshaft. So, AAA worked for me. I worry about Good Sam because I don't think AFfinity is in very good shape.

You know what? I feel good this morning. Miguel parked us, I got a good night's sleep, and a hot shower this morning. Life is good.
I am neither yea or nay on Good Sam's yet. I will say that they were very cordial on the phone. I was not going to let that tow truck driver unload our GMC until it was at Miguel's, no matter what. I had to make a fast decisiton. Can not second guess myself now. Teri and I are in good hands. That makes me think I did the right thing. I believe in supporting our folks when it comes to our coaches and in turn they do super work for us.
I might even try to find a camera without a spot on the lense so we can get better pictures of the tear down.
Dan

Dan Teri,

Glad you are in good hands and can take care of it and get back on the road.you might consider a towing service with a rv package.only has a 100 mile radius but you get a credit tords the call depending on what you towed...

You can also get a cheap cam five megapixel for less than 60 bucks if your near a target store.with software cd and cables.

Goodluck

Dan,
I will have a long block shipped out from the machone shop Monday if you need it now.
You'll need a professionally cleaned oil cooler in the radiator.
If we take short cut here like most, you'll have problems sooner than you like.
I will send you additional oil supplements. Make sure you mix it with the oil your going to use. If you pour it in, your wasting your time. Mix it , it takes long time for the engine to mix it.
Migil knows what to do, but you can make sure its done that way.
