This is good to know about the buzz box boiling the batteries. Is there any concern with the main engine's alternator doing the same thing to the house batteries? Just curious as we are about to invest in new house batteries as well. Currently looking at a pair of the Duracell EGC2 at Sam's.
Thanks!

Matt that is a different twist on how I understood it somewhat based on a article Wes wrote a while back. (FWIW) Buzz is a constant (non smart) output but only around 13v so it never finished the charge, but would never taper off so it would cause water loss. A Delco alt puts out 14.2 when cold and the regulator tapers down to about 13.8 when hot, roughly emulating the required charge voltage vs batt temp curve. It's ok to plug in the coach for a few hours, but don't leave it plugged in for days. Then driving the coach will final finish the charge so as not to sulfate the house batt. If you use the Buzz wisely as above you don't have to dump it now, but it sure is nice to loose the boat anchor and get space back as well all the while having the battery properly maintained. Both banks if you have a combiner.

Matt and John,
We are in the process of replacing the buzz box with a Inteli-power 60 amp Converter charge wizard RV PD9260C from Progressive Dynamics. And we are purchasing two golf cart batteries to go back in the battery compartment as the house batteries. So, we understand that with this new equipment we will prevent the house batteries from being damaged from overcharging when either plugged in to shore power or when running the generator.
Sorry to still seem confused but... we want to make sure the house batteries are equally protected when charging occurs from the engine alternator. For instance, if we travel for an extended period of time where we are driving for 24 hours or longer and the house batteries are being charged by the engine alternator, is there any possibility that the engine alternator will overcharge and damage the house batteries? To further complicate this scenario we may also have the generator operating while driving, thus powering the converter. It sounds like the answer is no - no matter how long the engine alternator supplies charging current to the house batteries it will not damage them.
We would like to address all the possibilities that could occur in power usage from the various sources we may use so the house batteries remain charged but also protected. In the next few weeks we hope to finalize our house electrical system and hope to have it done correctly. Mention has been made about a combiner so we'd like to include one if it will enhance what we are trying to do.
Sorry for the repetitive questions. We know just enough about what we are doing to try and do all this ourselves but not enough to do it without help.
Thank you all again,
Mickey

Mickey,
I have an Avion that also has two batteries in the back under the driver side bunk. I have NO idea how a 77 Kingsley is wired,
however, when I went to a 60amp PD like yours the fuse on the line that supplies 12vdc to the house (and receives charging current
from the PD) kept blowing. Being electrically challenged I just kept changing it. I finally realized that if you try and stuff 60
amps through a 40 amp fuse it will blow. I replaced the fuse with a 60 amp circuit breaker and all's well.
Regards,
Rob M.

be sure and get this wire on your alternator:
http://gmcmotorhomeinfo.com/APC.html
It can stop from having a melt down of the wire harness.
