Just as most every Coach I have seen, mine has a Microwave. It works just great when on Shore power but the circuit is not hot at any other time, even with the Onan. Is this the way it is supposed to be or is mine wired incorrectly?

Richard,
In what location is this outlet placed? No telling what the PO did in your
shore power wiring. In all coaches all AC plugs are wired to work with the
shore power and Onan. If you plug the coach into the onan plug when using
the generator then the wiring does not know what it is plugged into. Again
if this is an added plug no tell without taking it apart how it is wired

I have one of these for single 120V/30A power. I removed it in perfect
condition from a previous boat when I added a second 120V/30A circuit.

I'm at work, so don't have access to the switch and its part number,
but if there's any interest, I'll provide it tonight. Let me know.

Richard,

The short answer is - it is not wired correctly. The Onan should power all the 120VAC circuits. How it could not when shore power does, would be interesting to discover.

Does anything else not work when you are running the Onan? This could lead you to the real issue. My bet would be that the Onan connection is defective and is not powering both sides of the 50amp breaker box.

Richard,

Is it possible that someone had wired in a inverter to power one (or a few) outlet(s)?

The inverter may not be currently installed. They MAY have included a switch to switch the input from one input to another. I have heard of people using regular three way light switches to do this.... not that I recommend it!

I found a loose connection and after cleaning and tightened, the Microwave now works on the Onan as well as Shore Power. I sure am glad that I mentioned it, I was a little concerned with some of the responses. Happy that it was nothing serious.

Checking the Refrig now to see that it works on 12V and 120 with the Onan as well as Shore power, where it works so well that I have the T stat set on 3. Freezes the beer in the door Very Happy

Thanks again, perhaps my list will at some point get shorter instead of longer?

Richard,

According to what has been noted on the GMCnet the amount of cooling
available in the 12 vdc mode is minimal.

It's a good idea to have your GMC on shore power so the fridge can cool down
before you put food in it and that the food / drinks are cold also.

If the fridge is a three way fridge the LPG mode provides the most cooling.

Richard, it doesn't work that way. As the more important things drop off he list they will be replaced by others - from "she wants that" to "that would be neat" to "maybe next year".

My own list keeps getting longer all the time. And as if that wasn't bad enough, in a weak moment I bought a second GMC, with another list of to-do's.

Here is some information on the switch.

Manufacturer: Kraus & Naimer (Austria)

Series: C42

Two-pole, four position. The positions are:

ONAN - OFF - OFF - SHORE

Contacts are rated at 63 Amperes.

From OFF positions, going to either ONAN or SHORE
requires that you push in the knob; a safety feature.

Comes complete with an ONAN escutcheon plate
and original knob.

If you are using a 120V/30A feed, you can switch
both legs (hot and neutral). The same would apply
if your power is single 240V feed.

I believe it could be used on 120-0-120 50A if you
switch only the two hot legs.

Asking $100.

Erv,

I can't tell you how many times I heard my Opa say this in broken English!

Brought back some pleasant memories of him; he was a wonderful man.
