77' Eleganza II [message #71442]

i have a 1977 eleganza 2 and i am having issues with the gas tank/ gas flow.
it was running good saw on the gauge it need gas so i put some in it and it reads the gas on the gauge but it does not want to stay running.....
i try starting it with the switch on "Main Tank" and "Aux Tank" but it still won't start. how exactly do the two tanks work because i can only find one gas fill, how does Aux tank get filled??

Auxiliary tank is filled at the same time as the main tank. They have a common feed. You may have feed line problems, and might consider dropping the tanks, and replacing all of the fuel lines, as well as cleaning out the tanks and changing the "SOCKS".
You may also need to change the fuel filter at the carb, it could be plugged.
What happens when you flip the dash switch from main tank to aux tank?

when i change it the gauge does not move it stays at just above a 1/4 of a tank, i thought it was strange that it would not move at all when flipping the the switch....

Nick,

It sounds like you have a clogged fuel filter in the carb. Remove and check
it for contamination.

The ethanol in the fuel "cleans" out the tanks and can attack fuel lines if
they are not the correct rubber compound.

To fix the problem with a degree of permanence I would suggest you:

1) drop the tanks and clean them
2) check / replace the socks at the fuel pickups / senders
3) replace the fuel lines from the tanks up to the fuel pump with SAE 30R6

4) install a fuel filter with a metal housing at the INLET to the fuel pump,
this will keep the contamination out of the fuel filter in the carb.

Here's a picture of the two gas tanks as you can see there is one filler
line that comes down the side of the coach that "T's" off and fills the
front tank and then goes to the rear.

Reading will stay the same regardless of switch position until approximately 60% of the fuel is used.
