Teri just got a call from Ken. He decided to start his run home. He left our area before I got up this morning heading to town. I guess he figures he has seen it all. Was good having him here and I will miss being able to harrass him. You can watch him as he travels on the tracker by using n9kb-11. I just checked and it looks like he is northbound on 95 heading for 40.
Ken is one great friend.

Got a call sign? Maybe I can link it to an Echolink repeater in the system.

n9kb is Ken's amateur radio call sign. The -11 is a suffix Ken assigned to his vehicle so it call be identified on the APRS net where his current position is indicated on a map program on the Internet. Of course, he has to have his radio equipment turned on for all this stuff to work.

A long day of driving for Ken.
If he would like to sleep in a teepee tonight, he can take the first exit for Holbrook, Central Ave just a few blocks down on the right.

On the West side of the river, but at the ARCH. Great Google satellite view looking down on the ARCH. And look at the altitude, 322 ft vs the 6,700 as he came back down I40.

I left Quartzsite a day early because all of the state was covered with rain. There was not much to do in Quartzsite in the rain.
They closed I-40 from Kingman to Winslow and again from Winslow to Gallup. I drove I-40 anyway. Both of Arizona's state snow plows were out on I-40 and the road was fine. Actually the only plowing that was required was about a 20 mile stretch around Flagstaff. There were a few cars and trucks out there on I-40 with me in both directions but not many as the cops scared most of them off.
Flagstaff was a mess off of the Interstate. I was going to eat at Cracker Barrel. When I got there Cracker Barrel was closed as was Outback Steakhouse and just about everything else in town except Sam's club and Walmart. Before I got there, Flagstaff had 18" to 20" of snow followed by continuous rain. All of the street drains were blocked with snow so a river of rain water was running down the streets in the snow ruts 8 to 12" deep. I gave up looking for something to eat. The NWS weather radio (162.50 mhz.) was saying that after midnight it would get cold again and to expect an additional 2 feet of snow in Flagstaff overnight.
I left Flagstaff on I-40 headed east. I assumed I-40 was officially closed but the local cops could not get around in their Fords so the Interstate entrances were not blocked. 10 miles east of town there was little snow and clear sailing from there to Winslow. In Winslow I found the local cops had I-40 blocked going both west to Flagstaff and also east to Gallup.
I had dinner at Flying J. While I was there a local cop came in and posted that ALL of the Arizona Interstates were closed at various locations in the state due to either flooding or snow. I-40 back where I came from was closed hours before and would stay so until noon the next day. I-40 eastbound to Gallup (where I wanted to go) was closed indefinitely. They had Winslow cops blocking all I-40 entrance ramps.
I drove east on secondary highways and got on I-40 at the next entrance to I-40 where there were no cops. There was no snow all the way to Gallop, NM.
I stayed the night at camp Walmart in Gallup, and by morning had 8" of snow all over my vehicle.
That's pretty much my trip out of and across Arizona. In my opinion they badly over reacted to to the situation. Also they have closed almost all of there rest stops in Arizona, so if the weather really does turn bad there is no place for the trucks and a few cars to park until the storms clear.
I left Quartzsite a day early because off of the state was covered with rain.
