I have been reading posts here about this adapter. I understand it is one of the best ones. I have seen them cheaper... just not very often. Under $30 with shipping.

This site is like Woot... One day only. Has about 10 hours left as of my posting.

Thanks for posting that Mike. I've just ordered one for use in my shop
which is too far away and shielded by brick walls for me to get decent
reception from the house. I carry the 500 mW version in the coach and use
it most of the time when camping; it's amazing how many more sites it
collects than the laptop's build in wifi, even when the Alfa is right beside
the laptop -- usually 2-3 times as many hot spots.

Thanks for the heads up.  I, too, just ordered one.  It will come in really handy when I'm traveling.  Thanks again.

If you ever need and don't have a high power WiFi this is not a bad deal.

- BUT -

It is 802.11b/g and not n (the newest fastest standard).

That is probably why they are trying to unload them before the new version hits the shelf.

The n standard has been a problem because several manufactures released hardware based on the initial proposed specifications and then some of the spec was changed and not all could comply.

It still isn't shabby at half what the 500mW cost on Ebay.

I don't know where anyone has seen a better deal than this. The 500 mw units rarely sell for under 50 bux, This one has 1000 mw output.
I have about every gadget one can think of for wifi. Nothing beats this for 50 bux, and it is 30, with shipping. I don't even use wifi anymore but I grabbed one. Never know when I mite come upon a friend in need.
If you are a wifi user when traveling, or just want to get a better "lock" onto your neighbor's system, this will improve most any signal.

I may have been confusing this with the 500mw item... or it's clones.

The main thing I like about this style is that you can replace the antenna with another one that fits your needs. (Cantenna, Yagi, flat panel or a omni-directional one mounted outside your coach.)

You are correct Mike. Easy to hook an external beam antenna to this little unit. Here is the real kicker, these have an amplified receive also. So, with the 500 or 1000 mw output you also get a much better receiver, which you need.
Pretty much a plug n play item, in case one is challenged a bit, it does not matter. These things are the best for the money. I have 2 3 watt wifi amps with amplified receivers. I think the Alfa receive is just as good as my commercial units. They are great for adding wifi to a desktop also.

How about using this with the Verizon cell to wi-fi box
(the Mi-Fi unit) ?

Any way to improve its signal with this Alfa booster?

PS As usual, great unit at a great price, just ordered two.

I know nothing about mifi. I have heard there are no external antenna connections on it.
If the mifi does wifi and you need a stronger signal this will work. You plug it into your laptop and turn off the internal card.

Thanks Mike for telling us about the deal

WiFi is for a specific application, to function as a wireless network for
computers and such devices (printers). It has nothing to do with cellular
phones which operates differently on other frequencies, etc.

The 'Mi-Fi' box from Verizon (I think T-Mobile has
a version too) takes a cellular signal and converts
it to wi-fi.

If you give folks around you the password 4 or 5
users can share it on laptops, cell phones, etc.

Part of why I got one is to use with my iphone which
is locked to ATT which it locked to poor service.

No.
Cell/Mifi and Wifi are completely different frequencies.

To get cell and MiFi where the signal is poor, you need a booster (connects directly to the phone or modem) or a repeater (needs the unit near a pick-up antenna).
If you are interested look at E-bay items:
230424177505 and
220453665639
Then continue the study before purchasing.
If you have "non-unit specific" questions, ask.
I've been running boosters and repeaters for a few years now.

I love the Alfa unit. If there is open Wifi in the county, I can usually work it effectively.

Hey Fellas,

Have you seen this? I stumbled across it not too long ago, seems like it would be an excellent solution for mobile wifi.

http://attmifi.com/

You just plug in your sim card and with your, already paid for, data plan, you'll have wifi.

Any thoughts on this?
