Carlton,

I have original copies of the MM's and Parts Book.

I received an off net reply and it turns out that there is ANOTHER figure
with the firing order; the error can be found in X-7525 page 6Y-50 - Figure
50 - Secondary Sequence.

The sequence on the top of the engine is correct but the #3 and #6 posts in
the distributor are reversed.

I had already corrected it on my copy so I wasn't imagining things!

Gene, I'd suggest you note this info on your website so dummies like me
won't get confused! ;-)

Rob, do you have the factory manual or a reprint that could be where
there is a difference, I have a reprint and it is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

Gene,

Sorry, I should have provided some additional detail as there are multiple
figures that show the firing order.

In MM X-7525 there are two figures that provide the firing order:

The first one is on page 6Y-34 and is entitled "Figure 32 - Secondary
Wiring." The text is "FIRING ORDER 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2" which is correct. It
shows a distributor cap with an arrow and the posts are 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
which is also correct.

The second one is on page 6Y-50 and is entitled "Figure 50 - Secondary
Wiring." The text is "FIRING ORDER 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2" which is correct. It
shows a distributor cap (no arrow) and the posts are 1-8-4-6-3-5-7-2 which
is INCORRECT; the 6 and 3 are reversed.

In MM X-7625 there is one figure that provides the firing order:

It is on page 6Y-11 and entitled "Figure 4A - Secondary Wiring." The text is
"FIRING ORDER 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2" which is correct. It shows a distributor cap
(no arrow) and the posts are 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 which is also correct.

In MM X-7725 there are two figures that provide the firing order:

The first one is on page 6A-4 and entitled "Figure 2 - Cylinder Numbers and
Secondary Wiring." The text is "FIRING ORDER 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2" which is
correct. It shows a distributor cap with an arrow and the posts are
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 which is also correct.

The second one is on page 6Y-18 and is entitled "Figure 13 - Secondary
Wiring." The text is "FIRING ORDER 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2" which is correct. It
shows a distributor cap (no arrow) and the posts are 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 which
is also correct.

The only one that is incorrect is the one in MM X-7525 on page 6Y-50.

I would suggest that you revise the wording of your entry on your website
to:

From: FIRING ORDER --the manual is wrong!!

To: FIRING ORDER - Maintenance Manual X-7525 Figure 50 on page 6Y-50 is
incorrect! The # 3 and #6 posts in the distributor are reversed. Note: all
other figures in X-7525, X-7625, and X-7725 are correct.

That way if people compare the correct information that you've provided to
the correct information in the manuals they WON'T get confused!
