Well we have some miles on the new trans and 3.55 final drive that Jim K installed for us over the holidays.
1. Manny's new trans shifts a bit snappier than the old one. Much more crisp. Trans temps have dropped a few degrees as well.
2. The 3.55 final drive our 23' now seems to make more sense than I thought it would. It holds right at the 2800 rpm area going up hills which seems to be the sweet spot for the 455 (carbureted). I think it will also be much better for towing.
3. The fan clutch does not come on as much which Steve F. indicated might be due to more water being moved at higher rpms.
4. I would suspect the fuel mileage has gotten better maybe 1/2 mpg. The engine just does not seem to be working as hard.
5. The 3.55 was a little whiney in the beginning especially on the overrun but now seems to be almost as quiet as the old 3.07 gear set. Probably took a little time to break in.
6. Currently using dino oil in the final drive but will switch to synthetic after 1500 miles.
7. Currently using regular trans fluid but will drain and add synthetic at the next regular oil change. Probably take a couple of changes to clear out all the regular fluid. I could open a cooler line and blow it all out but that could get real messy.
8. Also got a new front left windshield installed. Nice.
9. Had Donny at Jim's fine tune the timing a bit. It definitely was pinging at high rpms. Real good now.
10. Jim's guys were real good. Very quick job. In and out in 10 hours.
DRIVEWAY NOW FREE OF OIL DRIPS!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks

Gary,
Thanks for the feedback.
You'll notice the differance when you pull the toad as the torque will be kicking in and you'll not notice that your pulling one.

Now I know why you come here for service and parts.
I'm now convinced that I can jump into my coach and leave.
OH!!! forgot , it is still not operable yet.
All I know is that when we pulled out the engine, I found 4 spark plugs with the electrodes bent.
