Well I need some help in finding a new water heater for our 77 Royale. It has the original and it is time for a change. This last year the heat exchanger started to leak and I disconnected it so we could make our last long trip. What we have is an Atwood and I want to replace it with a like unit with the heat exchanger. What I need is the Atwood model number so that I can get the right 6 gallon unit. I am not interested in the use of electrical heat for the water as I think I would have to upgrade the electrical box to take the increase in load. I just need to replace the gas and heat exchange unit that I now have. So what do I need to look for?

Gene,
Did you pickup on the notice that it was only recommended for low
altitude ( below 1960 feet)? Above that what is the problem?

Does it have a built in Oxygen sensor? Those Olympic heaters that
were on sale last year at Quartszite will not work above 5,000 ft.
The Oxygen sensor shuts them off. The factory screwed around forever
trying to make them work and gave up. That's why all the remaining
inventory was dumped at RV shows like Quartszite. If anyone needs
one, I still have one brand new in the box that I can bring with this
year.

That's the exact unit that I installed and we've used it at altitudes over 2,000 feet and never noticed any difference in it's performance.

I spoke with the factory and the guy I spoke with says there are no
problems at lower altitudes. A lot of mumblilng about air density at
5,000 ft. I have another one without the O2 sensor that we have used
for a few years with no problems.
