Try this if you run Windows Vista or 7:

To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the
folder to the following:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

And this is good for what purpose?

Application of this hack/tweak to a seldom used partition has had the effect of rendering said partition unusable; and crashing windows explorer to the desktop. On vista 64 bit it is a non-starter.

Some effort was required to delete this "feature" from my laptop.

As always, your mileage may vary. I am sure that it would work fine on other systems.

What Tom said: It gives immediate access to all the Windows maintenance
functions that are normally scattered all over Hell & Gone. They've been
hiding it from us all this time!

You can make the folder anywhere, most make it in the root of the C
drive...... you can make a shortcut of the folder and but that
anywhere to access the folder.

Now why didn't MS publicize this instead of monkeying with things "to make
them easier". Now I'm suspicious of some backdoor vulnerability. At least,
it's visible though, possibly, vulnerable.

I love it. 270 items. ACLs and everything else plus control over the
daemons. No wonder it's GodMode. I would have preferred "MasterControl".

Larry,

This is interesting; my experience here in Australia is completely opposite.
I had PC die and ran into problems loading Microsoft Office from that PC
onto the replacement. I sent an email to Microsoft customer support and a
technician up in Malaysia replied and set up an appointment to call to help
me with the problem. It took a number of days for him to resolve the problem
and a number of phone calls NONE of which I paid for. He told me to save his
email address and if I had anymore issues to contact him directly.

Wow Rob,
If Microsoft is actually providing support - that changes everything.....
This leaves me in a quandary.
I can finish converting to Linux and Open Office(most of the way there).
Or
Upgrade from XP and Corel to MS....
Lets see here,
280 for and OS vs Free
435 for the office package vs Free
All I have to do is move to Australia to get the support.
That might not be bad, but I just can't make the numbers work for me..
Maybe next time.

Actually - my experience with Macrosquash support is about a three beer story and a reason I am changing to Linux. If the support is what I'm going to buy, I feel I should get some.

Hey Ken H., this is all great. Now if you can find something that unlocks all those locked folders, I would be ecstatic.

I put mine on my desktop and was surprised to see that it worked just fine;
I'd expected to need it in a system folder somewhere. I haven't used it
much yet -- I just threw it out there for everyone to try 'cause I was so
excited -- after some 24 years of frustration with Windows, they finally did
something that makes sense!

I don't think it works with XP, but haven't tried it.

http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2010/01/05/windows-7-god-mode/#

I'm changing the name of my folder. GodMode is a term utilized for games,
primarily.

"You can change the ³GodMode² text, but the following period and code number
are essential)."

As pointed out on the blog, "It¹s more akin to an ³all tasks² list ‹ but you
may find it easier than stumbling through Windows numerous screens and
panels."

Take note: "The trick appears to work on both the 32 and 64-bit versions of
Windows 7. Vista 32-bit and Windows Server 2008 32-bit should also work.
However, it is known to crash 64-bit versions of Vista ‹ and you may need to
boot in safe mode or to the command line to delete the folder."

So, it's an egg that's not in XP.

Byron

Thanks Gene. Simple is good!
When Gary Berry was visiting we had a pretty severe wind storm that
took out the utility poles next to our house. (75 mph winds) Once
power was restored, I brought the computer back on line so Gary could
work out some wireless problems I couldn't deal with. At one point, I
shut down the computer and thinking it was off line, I shut of the
surge protector. It hadn't finished shutting down I guess. Wiped out
the hard drive on my one year old Gateway, 4 core drive computer. The
local geeks screwed around with it for a week reflashing the bios and
failed.
If I ever get it back, I'm going to see if I can to to Windows 7. I
have it on another computer and it sure is a step up from Vista. How
I hate Vista.

Steve & all;

Here are some more commands that will open up other tasks in Win 7 ONLY. Go to the root directory and make a new folder and name it,
example "first command." , notice the 'period' after the folder name. With a space after the period, paste the text string on. Here are some more commands, have fun.
