Whats the story here with Emissions Inspections in Az. Is it required everywhere and for everything?

Jeff
Look at the info here:

http://www.azdeq.gov/environ/air/vei/tested.html

According to this, all vehicles 1967 and newer, registered in the Phoenix metro or Tucson metro areas need to be tested. The exception is some newer vehicles (I think 5-yrs old or newer).

Only two counties require emissions testing. So far, that is.......
Pima and Maricopa.

Randy, I forgot to ask you yesterday in Portland, how are the numbers on your emissions test? We should compare data. Mine usually passes with a lot of room to spare on the allowable ranges.

Chris..
How is your coach doing now with the new Trandsmission and Final drive?
Mine has always had lots of room to spare as well with it's emmision tests.. But with "collector" car plates I only have to do it every 5 years now..

I know that feeling

Here in illinois, because it is old, it no longer tests

However, a question

At one place I used to work, they always told me, before you take the vehicle in for emissions test, CHANGE THE OIL.

They held the belief that changing the oil changes the out come of the EM test. How can that be? Is this true?

Any thoughts?

I am with you... I can't imagine how that would help. If the carb is dumping too much fuel, or it is missing or not timed correctly I am not thinking oil is going to help much. But then I had a friend who changed his oil every 1000 miles. Sounds like a lot of picklesmoke to me. I suppose these theories sell some oil.

In Ontario we have to be emission tested every 2 years or when a car changes ownership.  Several years ago my 93 GMC Yukon passed hydrocarbons by 1 point. I was told my valve seals were leaking. I was told used car dealers use methyl hydrate to pass emissions. I put a pint in about 10 gals. gas for the next test & it passed with flying colours. Did the same for the last 2 tests with the same results. The motor has 120,000 miles. 20+ year old vehicles are exempt.
