We have installed a small inverter (1k) t0 handle comm gear without starting
the generator - or firing up the big genset/ or shore power.

Utilized a 220v 3-way switch that fits into a regular single gang box - 1
side to house poser - other side to the inverter center to a plug strip
housed in the upper cabinet that host the comm gear/tv/digital tuners/ etc.

We also placed a 6 hour spring wound timer in the 12v supply line so it
could not run the big battery completely down

Has worked very well for some time..
