Time is approaching. Can we try again to see who will tell us that they are coming to Quartzsite?
Teri and I plan to be there on the 13th. Our plan right now is to park south of Q. about 4 miles with a bunch of other hams. We will be visiting everyone that we know. There are clubs having rallies and we will visit each one that will let us. We can pay 40 bux and get 14 days use of the dump and water. Or, we can stay in an rv park, very near by. Or, can camp down on the free land with Teri and me. Since we only get 14 days and we plan to be there about 20, we want to not pay the 40 dollar fee until we are within the 14 day period of going home. I hope that makes sense. If you have never been to Quartzsite, never fear. It is very easy to find everything and everyone. This is one fun period. Lots of great GMC folks, bus nuts, and ham radio operators. I think I have Ken B. talked into coming so, come meet Mr. Celebertie himself. I promise you will have a BLAST.

You haven't found me a place to land there yet. I need about 3,000 feet without any large rocks.

Ken, there is a runway on the north side of I-10 do not try landing
out in the boon docks as all the RV put stuff all over the place. I
think it is a dirt runway as light plains use all day long.

I went looking but found nothing at Quartzite. The closest I found was Blythe, Ca.

I'll go look again. Is this place right next to I-10 at Quartzite?

Yes, they pull gliders all day long and all the parasails use it, I'm
not use how long it is, I would use Blythe 1st and check it out later.
Blythe is only 17 miles for Quartzite.

You guys stole my thread here, now talking about airplanes. Ken, I know there is a strip somewhere north because the local RC Airplane Club is putting on a show just for us hams on Monday or Tues, 18th or 19th, on the north side of town at the runway.
Tie your scooter on the thing so you have ground transportation.

And stop those obscene messages on our phone. Teri picked that one up this morning that you left last nite. Rolling Eyes

There is a strip on the north side of I-10 before you get to the first QZ
exit going east. They run demo airplane rides out of there during January
and February. My son went up in a Stearman?? several years ago.

Thanks

Thanks Gary. I knew it was rinky dink but did not realize just how much so. Teri and I have traveled through there in June and there just is no one there, very few buzzards either. Too dang hot. This is perfect for GMC gatherings in January. Can park free, 40 bux for 2 weeks, or stay in rv park. Most of the excitement is within walking distance but one does need transportation to see the entire town. It stretches for at least a mile, maybe 2, along I-10 at the intersection of State 95.
Last year was our first real snow bird experience. I loved it. If the wind gets up we shut our doors and windows to keep the dust out of the GMC. With the sun shining we can pretty much not run our generator, even with it so far south. We use 4 solar panels. Most all days are t-shirt weather. There are some real bargains to be had in the big tent also. Major RV companies come and do free rebuilds on equipment such as tow bars here. I may have them rebuild my Roadmaster Falcon this year.
Yall come. If you can't, I will have lots of pictures on the blog.
Dan

Dan,
We have a good friend that lives in Bouse, about 15 miles away from QZ. Sue
owns a large sign shop in Anaheim. Her and her late husband have a couple of
acres in Bouse with some houses and 40 vintage tractors. They used to have
52 until her husband passed away early last year. She is in the process of
selling them. If anyone going to QZ is interested in acquiring a piece of
American vintage farm equipment please let me know. Sue spends a few
weekends in January and February on the property and can show you what is
available. There are all types and makes. Some running, some not. If anyone
would like Sue's contact info please send me an off list -email
gtw5@earthlink.net.

Thanks

I do not want to ring them all. Those two numbers have completely different functions.

Do not call my cell phone as I will not hear it tonight after I get home. The cell phone stays in my truck.

We will be there, staying at the RV park in with the Pacific Cruisers.

Our plan is to leave Pasadena around noon on Tuesday, January 19, and stay
at the " Spotlight 29 Casino" in Coachella, that evening with some others
from the Pacific Cruisers group.

That should put us in Quartzsite sometime before noon on Wednesday, the
20th.

We've never been to Quartzsite, so I'm really looking forward to this.

I understand that firewood is something of a "must have" item. Does anyone
know if it is readily available there, or whether it would be better to buy
it somewhere in Blythe or even bring it from Pasadena ?

Fin, great. I got my pinewood. I want you to give me a hand. I need to beat Jim K. in Montgomery. Since I built his car maybe I do have an edge, ha.
Firewood must be brought in. Not many dead trees in Quartzsite.
We are going to really have a blast.
