Hey Dan,
You may want to do a little research on the list and photo album on replacing the booster. I replaced mine and it required cutting the lower portion of the dash to get at the nuts holding the booster onto the fire wall.

Subject: Re: [GMCnet] Update On My Faded Brakes

Thanks to everyone. I will order the booster from Jim K. in the morning, knowing that it very well may not fix my problem. But, this one is leaking and it is obvious. After that I will start checking things at the wheels. I do know how to adjust drum brakes so I can get the rears adjusted if need be. I can also change a master cylinder so I may get a chance to do that after a few other checks first. I do appreciate all of the help. I know it is hard for yall to tell me what the problem is but with the advice I can start working my way out of this. I just hate brake work on big rigs. This aint my vdub or 65 Mustang.
Will let you know what happens. Having this list is the best tool someone like me can own.
Thanks again,
Dan

Arch's link is gone. I have a 74 built in 73. There is a bracket with two bolts holding the master cyl. up, in addition to the two bolts to the booster. Is this factory? If so, just pull those two also? I am assuming they are metal screws.

Dan,

Yes, you have to remove the two bolts that go UP into the dash and the two
nuts that hold the booster into the bracket.

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU LOOSEN THE BOLTS THAT GO UP INTO THE DASH!!!

They are rivet nuts that are crimped into thin sheet metal and they can
spin. If they spin you've got a BIG problem!

It might be a good idea to squirt the bolts with some penetrating fluid and
let them sit for awhile.

When I replaced the master cylinder in Double Trouble I noticed that the
whole booster moved in and out as Helen pumped the pedal to bleed it. I
looked up and noticed that there was only one bolt holding the bracket to
the bottom of the dash and the other one was loose. I tried to tighten the
loose one but it just spun so I took it out to find that it was a carriage
bolt screwed into the thin aluminum! I later fixed it by drilling out the
rivet nuts and JB welding new ones in along with crimping them.

Good luck!
