G’day,

I did a Google search for Firestone Steeltex Radial R4X and what I found
wasn’t pretty! From what I can tell the Steeltex P range were the ones on
the Ford Explorers. I also found a few examples of the LT range that had
failed.

I couldn’t find out if they were steel belted sidewalls or not.

If they are steel belted sidewalls and the pressure has dropped in storage
to 50 pounds it might be a good idea to have them checked.

Also Mike stated his tires are 2-3 years old, however, was that from the
date of purchase or from the data on the tire itself.

Regards,

I had one of those Firestones shred on rented Explorer I was driving east of Fallon, NV. It was not pretty. Hertz gave me a new car to drive.

I really wish people would give that up. I have 100K miles on my Explorer and I'm convinced it is the Firestone's, not the truck. I have Michelin's on my truck, and it is a 2WD Sport Trac Pickup variant, but that shouldn't matter.

Of course the toothless dipshits at U haul will not rent me a trailer, but will rent a trailer to a Merc mountaineer driver or a Ford Ranger. I do have it on good authority within Uhaul that they are finally looking at allowing them now. Maybe that authority will pipe in here. Rolling Eyes

The Firestone tires that were on the truck for the week I had them were crap. Goodyear Wranglers are crap too.

My 97 Ford 150 4X4 off road has the original GoodYear Wranglers that came on it new 88K ago. Still got decent tread.

I'm wondering about the expression on your face when you read that,
Bob. I'm guessing a smile, but small, slight, tight, grin?
