9th Bomb Sq of 7th Bomg Wg (Mors Ab Alto) deployed
en masse from Carswell AFB, TX to Anderson AFB in
April 1965. We (including me) did the very first
SAC attack on Viet Nam (south) on 18 June 1965. I
had somewhere around 20 missions (never kept track)
between then and end of November 1965 when the unit
redeployed back to Carswell.
An EWO on one of the crews from the Mather AFB wing
who had the midair on that mission had been one of
my instructors and a personal friend when I was a
student at EW school at Mather in 1962.
I hope to maybe have a GMC coach someday.
BTW, 7th Bomb Wing now flies the B-1B out of Dyess
AFB, TX. Motto and patch remain basically the same.
Cheers - Mac

When I was in Tech School At Lowery AFB in Denver in 1966 they flew
one of the last A models from Stapleton to Lowery, about 6 miles
apart. Put just enough fuel to get it off the ground at Stapleton and
over to Lowery. We watched them get it stopped on a very short
runway. Lowery had been closed for air operations for a number of
years and they had to tear down several building to get enough length
to get it in. That was the last plane that every flew in. They put
it in the large hanger for tech school use. The memories flood back.
