Cracked intake manifold-
One shop tech says it is not fixable because it is too far down near the crossover.
Another RV expert says if welded, the metal composition changes and another crack will result next to the weld.
Anyone have experience or knowledge about this please respond.

Michael,
As you know I faced this situation several months ago and decided to install
an aluminum manifold and be done with it.
I am of the opinion that a high percentage of intake manifolds on GMC's
crack because of the heavy load the engine has to pull. Who knows how many
you'll have to go through before you find a good one.
IMHO you have four options:
1) Keep checking GMC manifolds until you find one that is not cracked.
2) Find a manifold off a Toronado.
3) Get a used manifold from Jim K; he sells them for $180 and I assume that
is cleaned and crack checked.
4) Install an aluminum manifold
If you install a cast iron manifold I would block off the crossovers with
one of Dick Patterson's kit.
