Does anybody know how many Clarence did & where are they now?

Here's a series of photographs that show how Clarence did them!

Is there any info - pros or cons about stretching a 26' to 29 1/2' - 30'?
Any literature, drawings etc. available?  I want to stretch the 26' Avion in
the center.  Anyone been there, done that?  Thanks in advance for you
advice.

I just got off the phone with Max Pardy who worked for Clarence
Buskirk for a long time. He says that they built 8 stretch coaches
over the years.

They build 4 stretches when they were at the old shop which is now
Cinnabar business place.

One went to a guy in Wisconsin
One went to a guy in California
One is still here is Michigan
One is not accounted for

At the New shop they build 4.

One is in Indiana
One is in Tennessee
One is in Texas
and the last one is in New Mexico

The frame was stretched with 9" added in front of the rear bogies and
the rest behind to make it a proportional stretch. It made it look
like a 26" on steroids. If you planning to do a stretch you will need
to have a donor coach for body parts and frame parts.

PowerJohn-
So the conclusion is that the wheelbase increase is only 9"? Looks like
a lot more than that. Mine was stretched 2' in the rear behind the
bedroom windows, which allows full size beds parallel to the sides and a
center aisle between the beds.
The difference in expense would be considerable and not sure it would be
worth it for a 9" longer wheelbase. What would be the advantage to
justify that additional expense?
Would you ask Max if he can get access to the TZE numbers of the coaches
they stretched?
Thanks-

No Jim, that is not what I said! I said "The frame was stretched
with 9" added in front of the rear bogies and the rest behind to make
it a proportional stretch." Making it a 29 1/2' coach, 9" in front
and 2" 9" behind. They did this by making the frame rail longer then
repositioning the bogies and then re-sectioning the body. Did you
look at the pictures that were in Rob's email?

There are no longer any records available on the work that was done as
all the business records were trashed along with most of the parts and
tools when the last owner closed the business.

John-
Not to be argumentative but I think we are saying the same thing. If
you add 9" of frame in front of the rear bogies, doesn't that increase
the wheel base by 9". Anything added behind the rear bogies would not
increase the wheel base.
My point is, why pay thousands more to tear up a coach just to add the
9" in front of the rear bogies, when adding two feet at the rear cost a
fraction of that procedure? My stretch job was completed without
damaging anything in front of the rear bedroom.
Would the additional 9" in wheel base make that much improvement?
Jim
BTW- I respect Buskirk's work, I just question the additional expense.

Jim,
In a stretch we are really increasing the overall length, we are not
radically changing the wheelbase or in some cases not at all. In a
Buskirk stretch the over all WHEELBASE is increased by about 20"+/-.
When you look at the pictures: http://www.gmcmotorhome.com/tech/buskirk/
Look at the spacing between the entry door and the front of the
rear wheel well. Notice the difference between the stock and the
stretch. Clarence B. was very particular on wheel base compared to
over all length. He tried to balance the load on the axles as the
overall coach weight was increased. Granted there are a large number
of stretches that have been done out there with the longest one that I
know of being the coach done by Ron Tasse in 1998 at about +31' which
is now owned by a GMC Great Laker, but remember you asked about
Buskirk Stretches. Vast majority of the stretches have been done by
adding the extra length behind the rear axle without changing the
wheelbase. Here is a link to how that is done. <http://www.gmcmidwestclassics.org/Web%20pages/stretch.htm
> To Clarence B. this was a NO NO and he thought it overloaded rear
frame and unbalanced the coach and that was his personal opinion
others may vary. I don't really care how someone stretches their
coach as long as their happy, I was trying to explain how Buskirk did
it. If I was to do a stretch coach I would do it the same way
Clarence B. did it and that would be my personal choice.

A man in Texas did his own, added 42" & moved the bogies back 20" . Moved the Onan ahead to under the kitchen window. Also raised the body 2 1/2" for larger gas tanks & holding tank.

So the conclusion is that the wheelbase increase is only 9"?  Looks like
