$1.98 for 1. (shipping)

BUT... any extra are .99 each. (up to 10 total.)

I have never been that impressed with this type of bulb. Compared to the ones I tried, the normal bulbs look brighter. The normal bulbs use the reflectors in the housings... these LED's do not. But they did "work."

David,

If you click on the number of Feedbacks the seller has a list will pop up
showing things he's sold in the past. If you look in the right column you
will see "Private." That's where the item number goes so you can't tell what
item the Feedback relates to.

If you sold good stuff why would you do that?

I read that you don't want to mix colors with the lenses. This is because of the color differences and the lens will negate any brightness the led can produce.

in the case of white led, the blue hue will diminish and dull the performance. They said red led for red lense....

NOT SO???

Larry: The amber led 1157 behind a red tailight comes out a real cool purple, but not very bright. The amber and reds seem cheeper as the clear ones are much more $$$.. I never tried a clear 1157, but even then the light would be concentrated in the center. What I did was got 4" round truck leds and trimmed enough plastic off the top side to go inside my factory lens and clear the back up lite partition. The ones I have produce a starburst from the center out to the edge. Cool I broke a 1157 bulb and soldered the pigtail for the light to it, plugged it up, put some dum-dum under it and held it on with the stock lens. They probably are not as brite as some, but are much briter than origional. Took about an hour to do both.

G'day,

There are only 7 LED's in the 1156's pictured; do an eBay search for 1156
(or 1157) and you'll find them with up to 63 LED's!

Obviously the more LED's the higher the cost.

Good day Rob: Maybe not, some of the newer LEDs I have been seeing on big trucks have less # of LEDs but are bigger and put out way more light?? I found a LED flashlight in the road last week, it was small, about 3" long with one LED. It is much brighter than the same size one I have with 21 LEDs?? I showed it to Wally and He seems to think a law officer probably lost it and thinks it cost about $100??

Chuck,

Good info, it looks like one should ask how many lumens the LED bulbs
produce before you buy them!!!

Good write-ups in many areas:

and they talk the facts about how LEDs do not put out as much light in tail
light applications as a filament bulb does, they just look brighter in some
directions ---- also turn signal problems--

They look like they might be a good alternative.
Those chip type LEDs wont have the focused beam so the light may distribute better.
interesting.

cboyd, i was thinking of doing the exact same thing.

ive installed LED clearance lights, and my original 1156's in the tail lights are just as bright and the light fills up the Lense. I bought some Red LED 1156's and its a beautiful deep red. The lense does a great job of spreading the light produced, but it appears as a red ball in the center.

I was going to try to find a square or rectangle truck LED that would fit inside, under my factory Lense, and do just what you did with soldering the 1156 base.

How did you deal with the difference in the elements for the brake and tail light functions?

And i cant WAIT to see someone try these things out!! this is a good toy site btw

I`m trying to understand the ?. The truck 4" LED has brake and tail lite function. There is a pigtail that goes with the lite. I soldered the pigtail ground to the 1157 housing, brake and tail lite wires to each contact. Very simple.

I also have all LED clearance lights and they indeed are brighter than
what they replaced. Less hassle too. when it comes to tail and turn
lights, LEDs substitutes still fall short and create a different set
of problems with flasher operation and raise havoc in some computer
controlled autos. Certain Honda Civics (2002?) had halogen type
taillight bulbs and I put them in the GMC behind the late model lenses
and they are brighter and have no effect on the flasher performance.

I am with you Steve. I love the clearance lights but am still waiting for the tail lights. I do like Gene Dotson's way of installing tail lights though. I also have them in the side marker lights and they look pretty neat. They are little clusters of 5. I will have to monkey with my electronic cruise when I add tail lights. Inside the coach we are fixed up real nice for Quartzsite this winter. Hope to see John's new stuff out there. Was not much there last year that I would spend my money on, and over priced.

Dan,

When I installed the 4 inch LED tail lights with the pig tails, I just hooked the wires up to the tail lights, direction signals and brake lights and they all have worked for the last 5 years.

Gene, do you have the Rostra cruise? The book tells how to rewire it for the led lights. Emery also explained it to me. I just hate to mess with it because it works so well as is. It worked the first time I tired it, after I installed it 5 years ago. I don't want to monkey with a working cruise, if that make sense. This was discussed last month but I don't recall whether you have the Rostra or not.
Your's look really nice and I have wanted to do mine since the first time you showed them to me in Evansville. Did not help that you parked right in front of me at Pueblo.

Dan,

I do have the Rostra cruise. I had trouble with it cutting off my first trip but found I had it tied into the wrong switch on the brake. Every time I used the turn signals it cut off. Has worked well ever since. That's the only problem I have had with it.
