jwillard wrote on Sun, 29 November 2009 09:56 | That is a great article and seems very relevant to our coaches. Here's my final set up...
I've gone with manifold vacuum, the TVS switch is disconnected and will be removed next time the coolant is drained.
I'm pretty sure the static advance was wrong but, I bumped the distributor loosening the bolt so I never got a "before" reading however, when I set it correctly to 8 degrees, the vacuum and idle increased quite a bit. I also saw, at the beginning of this process, that fuel was "dribbling" out of the primary venturies. Once the timing was set properly I was albo to close down the idle screw so the venturies are now dry. This also allowed the actual idle scews to have much more of an effect. I've adjusted them for max manifold vacuum.
Can't want for the test drive. It should be a significant improvement.

Please make sure you have good hearing and listen for detonation (pinging) under low engine rpm load. At 8 degrees static you should have no problems but I know of two GMC engines that were destroyed by pinging. One of them has been parked since July while he builds up a replacement engine.
If you can not hear well, find someone who can and have them ride along and listen. I use my wife for this chore.
