Just to add my two cents: I have had the Verizon Mi-Fi set up for several months now. I ditched my home DSL and run my PC with the Mi-Fi unit hooked directly to my PC. When I go on the road in my coach (or a motorcycle), I take the small lap top and the Mi-Fi unit with me and have Internet service just about anywhere. When I signed up for the Mi-Fi, I went with the larger $60/month program because I was going to use it at home and it allows 5 giggle-bites of download per month. When the contract gets renewed, I will opt for the $40/month program as I never get close to using the 5 giggles (tee-hee) each month.

Ken: be very certain that you can stay within the much lower limit on the $40 plan. As I recall it has a very, very low amount of "free" time and seemed to me to be more of a teaser rate to get you interested than a usable one in the real world. The cost when you go above the limit is truly breathtaking.

BTW those of us who got into the Verizon system early have truly unlimited service on our plans, not the 5 giggles you mentioned. I just leave mine plugged into my Cradlepoint router 24/7 and it is my net connection for the 5 months I am here in AZ. With the Cradlepoint, I have wifi service all around the place. I would do the same at home in ID, but we have no cell service at all where I live, so it is Wild Blue Satellite there.

Yea Rob, the unlimited is nice. They stopped that in March 07 so I grabbed mine in Feb 07. I also leave mine on 24/7. When we are at home, in Dexter, we have 3 computers running most all of the time. I like not worrying about running over. I don't think the mifi has externa antenna jacks. That would be a killer for me. My wireless router has wifi antenna connector. The card has cell connector. Sometimes, I use both. The mifi is a nice setup for many folks though. I know you have no cell service in Idaho but I have never traveled anywhere with no Verizon service, even across 50 in Nevada.

I paid something like $200 for my Verizon MiFi unit.

It is available on Amazon for one penny.

The company that makes them for Verizon (and Sprint) is
Novatel. They also sell an un-locked (no contract)
version that has a SIM card slot.
Meaning you can connect with your choice of cell companies.
